What's up with this drive? Why are all the vendors dumping them like hot cakes?

(Although, I am thankful that I got mine for $45 after rebates. Thanks you CompUSA and Best Buy for making my first pricematch an enjoyable experience.)

This drive only give you about 41Gb after formated. You lose 4 Gb just by formatting.

Bad dude, HD manufactures don't take 1024 KB = 1MB nor do they use 1024MB = 1GB. They strictly use 1000 (1000KB = 1MB, 1000MB = 1GB). Doing the math, you'll end up with 41.92 true GB (with a little taken off after formatting ... maybe a few MB) instead of 45GB.

good point SU, but your school needs another kicker. How many times do you need a chance to win the game and be carried out of the stadium on your teamates shoulders before you take advantage. He must have had at least 3. Great game.

go yellowjackets.

Rumor has it that that $60 extra off from CompUSA is good for purchases up to 10-14.. Sooo... You could buy it from CompUSA, grab the rebates.. Then pricematch on Sunday. Right? Or can you not pricematch after purchase?

Pete got the info from an advance copy of the sales flier for CC.

You will not get a PM from CompUSA on the $99.99 price. You can get a PM on the $149.99 before rebates price though. That would take the price down to $59.99 after the CompUSA and manufacturer MIRs.

Hi, I am new to price match. What am I suppose to do? Do I bring in CC's ad and tell CompUSA to match it at that price and then use the rebate? or do I have to buy an actual drive from CC and should CompUSA the receipt for CompUSA to price match? Thanks.

Ok, I have the drive purchased from CompUSA's Tysons Corner Virginia Store Friday evening they had 10 now they have 9. They also have pleanty of rebate forms left (I was worried they might pull the forms to discourage this type of activity) So now I wait for the CC ad on Sunday and make another pilgrimage to CompUSA for my price match. Does CompUSA give you back the "Difference plus 10% of the difference" Like CC and BB or only the difference?

I'm not sure what you need to get the CC rebate, but the other $30 and $60 rebates only require photocopies of the receipt. So...you can buy it from CompUSA, copy the receipt, return it, get it from CC for $149.99 - $30 - $60 - $20 = $39.99. That is, of course, if the CC rebate doesn't require anything, which I doubt. In any case, i'm glad I was able to pick it up for $129.99 at my CompUSA last monday.

If you notice there are already pretty good deals on the 41GB 7200RPM WD drive, so likely WD is just getting rid of the 5400RPM drive... it is a decent drive, not as fast as a Maxtor 5400RPM I have, but still decent.

My CompUSA refused to price match Best Buy, maybe I can get them to price match CC.

I would bet you can't get 3 rebates.

The WD MIR and the CompUSA MIR require the UPC code and the capacity label. I would bet would the CC rebate requires one or the other also. Once you cut the box, you can't take it back for refund.

The best, easiest and cheapest way, IMO, is to purchase it tomorrow at CompUSA and pricematch it later in the week with the Circuit City ad. This would bring the after rebate price to $60 + tax.

The CompUSA rebate doesn't require the UPC code. They require the Capacity Label so you can use the UPC for the WD rebate.

That's right. To redeem the CompUSA and WD rebates you need the UPC code and the capacity label, along with a copy of the receipt. Since the box only has 1 UPC code and 1 capacity label how is someone going to send either of those to CC to qualify for their $20 rebate also?

Thanks for the tip DulySeeFit! I checked circuitcity.com and they were indeed already priced $149 and showing as in-stock at two local CCs. I called the first and they were out of stock (contrary to what cc.com showed), so I called the second. The second store had ONE in stock.

I had bought two WD's at CompUSA, so I thought this might be a problem--i.e. trying to pricematch two when CC only had one in stock. I rushed to CompUSA to give it a try anyway...the CompUSA CSR called CC and verified the price...and when he asked if they had any in-stock, apparently CC didn't tell him they only had one, or either the CSR just ignored this.

Anyway, after he verified it with CC, then he started to argue that their's was cheaper because of the $60 rebate and he couldn't give me the PM. (I expected this argument to come before he actually called and verified! ) After a good 15-20 minutes of arguing that the rebate shouldn't/doesn't count in CompUSA's pricematch policy, he finally said he'd just have to go talk to his manager. He came back about five minutes later and said okay...

So I got the pricematch for $149 on both drives! $149 - $60 - $30 = $60 which is certainly not bad! It's not $40 as some got, but I couldn't find a local BB with them in stock and CompUSA wouldn't PM against Mysterie's posted receipts. If any of you bought the drives and haven't PMed yet, I hurry back to CompUSA before your local CC sales out!

Bought the final two drives from COMPUSA...one for me and one for a lucky one...
anyway, gonna wait till Monday to PM it with the Circuit City Store that has it in stock.....

Apparently, the drives are not in stock in some stores and they will be in stock very soon....
I got 14 days to do that....
Nothing beats buying a 45Gig for $60.

Calc: - (209.09 PMd with CC to 149 - 60(MIR from COMPUSA) - 30 (Manuf. Rebate) = 60+tax
