I have a WD 500G HDD(WD5000AACS), it serves me well until recently I've been annoyed by the weird sounds that coming out from this HDD.
If I'm idling or surfing net, I'll hear some "tick" sounds from this HDD randomly. Sometimes it'll occur rapidly, something like 10 secs or so will sound once, sometimes I've to wait for quite a long time until I heard the sound again, as I said it's random.
Tried google and see what I can get, ended up it's very likely that the heads of this HDD damaged or crashed(http://www.datacent.com/datarecovery/hdd/western_digital). And it seems that I can't fix it by myself.
So what can I do? Any other solution that I can fix it by myself instead of sending back to WD for RMA? Thanks.
