You can use Hitachi Feature Tools to see/change your AAM setting. If you hear no difference in seek noise with AAM turned on or off, and there is no change in access time, then that means it's been hard-set by Western Digital.Originally posted by: mshan

I ran HDTach and seems like AAM is enabled for maximum quietness (?) - about 16 ms.
I was hoping it might be really instantaneously snappy, but I guess that's the price for quietness.
I have an x2 3800+ and now that I've upgraded my hard drive from a WD3200KS (3 107 gb/platter density), system seems faster. Almost seems like my hard drive was holding back system potential (?).
