Don't know where you heard about 160 gigs per platter, but I can almost guarantee you that's false.

Possibly a better deal: Newegg.com has the same drive for 94.99 with free shipping.

How is $95 better than $88?

Is this the drive with 320 gigs per platter?
I heard some of these models came out with 160 gigs per platter.
Got mine from MWave on eBay using 20% MSFT cashback. Without the 10% PayPal code I used it'd come to $82 shipped.Originally posted by: jrichrds
You can use Hitachi Feature Tools to see/change your AAM setting. If you hear no difference in seek noise with AAM turned on or off, and there is no change in access time, then that means it's been hard-set by Western Digital.Originally posted by: mshan
Got mine installed and it is very very quiet, both at idle and during seeks (very subdued).
I ran HDTach and seems like AAM is enabled for maximum quietness (?) - about 16 ms.
I was hoping it might be really instantaneously snappy, but I guess that's the price for quietness.
I have an x2 3800+ and now that I've upgraded my hard drive from a WD3200KS (3 107 gb/platter density), system seems faster. Almost seems like my hard drive was holding back system potential (?).

I got my drive from Directron today. HORRIBLE packaging. Sitting on the side of the box, one layer of bubble wrap and 3 airbags to fill the rest of the space. Instead of a standardized way of packing drives, they must just use whatever is on hand.

It is when you consider shipping is included and it's coming from a trusted source. The newegg.com price also helps give some perspective on how good this deal actually is.

Directron is based in Houston TX, Newegg is based in City of Industry CA.
Their locations seem to tell a story about their styles...
Directron... low key, laid back.
Newegg... more intense, always got the hussle going.
