CC has a WD 80GB external HD on sale for
$149.99 - $50 MIR - $30 MIR = $69.99

OM has this same HD for
$149.99 - $30 IR - $30 MIR = $89.99

PM OfficeMax's out the door price ($119.99) at CC and get the HD for
$149.99 - $33 (110% of the difference) - $50 MIR - $30 MIR = $36.99.

It is YMMV because CC might not want to PM to OM because CC's AR price is lower. It worked for me, but the CSR kept the rebate forms. Rebate forms are available online. Tag, tax and title are extra.

I guess that would put a dent into the manager that ripped up the rebate form in front of my eyes...

Recap:
Purchased the drive after much hoopla
Had Manager "shoutmatch"
Manager ripped up rebate in front of me
Filled Rebate through CC Rebates Online
Got my Rebates

Karsten, you r a one hell of a never say giveup guy. Thumbpsup. Congrats for having your rebates back.

Got my rebates two days back.

You know... it all started like this. I read it and took it as a YMMV. I figured I give it a shot and if I get the simple no, I just leave it at that. But they Managed to really get me going just by the simple way they approached this. It reached a boiling point when they agreed to the deal but had to check on the deal (I showed them the OM flier) and if it is in stock. Either the clerk was mentally handicapped, or he did slush it on purpose. Either way after talking with OM he hangs up and tells me, ON LABOR DAY when everyone is running these specials, that it's not a valid promotion / has expired and they don't have a drive in stock. OK, second one I might buy if he would have at least read the right product on the phone, but basically calling me a liar (making up my own flier with the dates) well... that took the cake.
I mumbled something under my breath and just said... "I'LL BE BACK" thinking "AND NOW YOU WILL PM THIS DRIVE"!
Went to Office Max, luckily just about 2 miles, went to the shelf, which had many "Take this to the Register" tickets. Took one and purchased one. Final price without rebate.... low and behold the special price from the flier. Was polite and Thanked the OM staff. Took drive and receipt to the CC store and asked to the Manager. And so the dance began... I'll rather not go into the painful details. I did not lose my cool in the sense that I was rude, I did however raise my voice level and held a little session on posted policies (In a twist of Irony that price match rules where posted behind the counter). People looked and Manager Lady got unhappy with me. After giving me the same deal about cost, and with rebates they are cheaper, blah blah blah. I told her that the policy mentions nothing about MIR's and so forth. She gave in and proceeded to ring up the drive incl. the 10% of the difference part. When the rebates printed she looked at them, typed a little something and then while looking at me ripped the rebate forms up. Ohhhh my poor Bloodpresure.
Anyway, went home, pulled up Anand Forums and Thanks to Zerilos got the Online rebate codes. Filled everything out and send it in the next day with delivery confirmation.
And just because that Lady pissed me off I filled a BBB complained detailing the situation and requested an apology.

A friend said to me "Well, I guess that is the last CC purchase for you". Ohhhh contrair, I will purchase there EVERY TIME when one of these hits the Market. And I will just talk with Manager from the start.

As promissed I will hit them every time with these deals. I just checked with the local OM and they have plenty in stock. I WILL GET THIS!

Doh, Southern California OM's have the external 120GB rather than the 80GB on sale this week. No deal for us here. I totally agree with you Karsten. A while back, I debated the manager at our CC about rebates and out-the-door price on a Sandisk Cruzer deal. Something about his tone made my blood boil the entire time we went back and forth. Eventually he gave the the out-the-door price of BB but withheld the mail-in rebates. Fine, I just went home and printed the online versions.

Got mine at CC with a PM to OM. ($119.00)

Funny thing is Rebates did not print out, so I had to get them online.

Sweet Deal for ~$40.00

however, don't you have to send your reciept? if they see the price match they might not give you the rebate? ( I THINK THAT THEY SHOULD REGARDLESS THOUGH!)

I know that BB has changed their PM/Rebate policy. Not sure about CC.

Anyone know for sure?

when i last tried to PM OM for an internal 120GB drive, they gave me some stupid BS that they only pricematch AFTER REBATE prices.

The before rebate price was cheaper at OM because of an IR...$40 cheaper to be exact.
THe after rebate price was $20 cheaper at OM, and they only wanted to give me $20.

It is probably covered elsewhere, but I will do a quick recap for the last two posters.

Basically, 1) find this week's OfficeMax ad (check last Sunday's paper or their website). 2) Take it to a local Circuit City and find a CSR/manager who is willing to price match there.

Remember, this is a YMMV (your mileage may vary) because not every CSR will be willing to do a price match. There is also a chance that the rebate will be shot down because of the price match. In practice, however, people rarely have rebate issues at Circuit City on this kind of deals. (I am hoping I didn't just jinxed it for myself).

Seems to be a local deal. Mt local Office Max is not showing any rebates on the drive. Too bad. I was looking forward to a little excitment.

I managed to get circuit city to pricematch to $116.99 (I think my cashier duffed as I was under the impression he was matching to $119.99... the out of door price at OM, but all the better!) So I ended up walking out of CC with the drive for 126.64 after tax. Now I just need to send off my $80 worth of rebates making the drive $46.64. This isn't the same price Cyberia suggested but I still think it was a good deal. Just wanted to write to let others know it worked. Oh and I did this in Fort Worth near Hulen mall.

I totally agree, I have probably wasted a couple of gallons of gas going to and fro to CC to pricematch all in vain. I have to compensate for the gas with some good deal now. I am going to stay away from CC for a while for PM

Well... turns out the secret is to go in 10 min before closing. I got the deal after all. I was planning to return it since my local OM didn't have the promo. I walked in and told the guy I want to return this. He asked if it is defective and I simply said no, I just found it cheaper at Office Max. He said "You know we price match, wanna do that?" LOL

So I got the price match and paid $120 some before $80 MIR. That means 80Gig USB2 drive for $40

Now wasn't that so hard CC?!
