total cost + tax= $21.64 for an 80gb drive...you do the math on the price/gig

about $.27 for you. I have no store to get a rain check from and so went the phone order/rebate route. Final price for me will be $26.xx or $.325/gig. The best thing is that we're both happy with the deal and you're reeeallly happy because you don't have to deal with the rebates. I do envy you and any others who got it for $20+ out the door. Try not to snicker too much at us as we sweat out the rebates.

Alert: I just called OfficeMax customer service to confirm that both $30 rebates were still valid and that all I needed to do was mail in a copy of my raincheck with the submission. The rep I talked to was not familiar with the deal. I asked him to check with his supervisor on what the national office was telling people. He came back and mentioned that I could send it in, but that I might expect some problems. I asked, does this mean you haven't cleared the extension of the rebate period with the manufacturer? Couldn't get a definite answer. I started to worry.

I then called the store in Austin where I paid the full $79.99 plus tax 2 days ago. When I explained what customer service had told me, the manager said to just bring my receipt and drive back to the store and they would take care of it. So now I've got my drive, and no rebates to mail in.

Hope this works for others. Only please be polite when you call your store. Sounds like a massive screw-up at higher levels, and the local branches are having to clean it up.

karbon: I will be really disappointed in you if you do not mail in the rebates anyway! The rebates should still be valid. How about getting paid $40 AR for buying the drive. . .

We should all be sending in the rebates on at least one drive, no matter what the OTD price is. Anything less would not be in the spirit of this forum!

$20 out the door here in San Jose, CA. No rebate hassles

Picked up one drive for myself and one for a friend. Neither of us has a complaint, and I think it would just be taking advantage to claim rebates.

My 2 cents on that one

My thanks to those that started this post

Which location? I've got rainchecks from Almaden and Bascom, one for $79 and one for $19. The Bascom store said they were extending the rebates so if my number ever does come up I'll be "ok". Not that I trust them....

I ordered this online and got it the other day, but they sent the 120gb instead....even tho the packing slip says 80gb! Guess i'll have to return it to get the rebates for the 80gb.

I purchased the drive over the phone on 1-25. I just contacted OM via phone. She first told me that it was delivered to me on 2/4. That's a surprise to me. She gave me a UPS tracking # which claims that it will be delivered on 2/10.

The OM rebate must be postmarked within 14 days of purchase.
The WD rebate allows 30 days from the date of purchase.
Am I going to get screwed out of the OM rebate?
The purchase date is outside of the 14-day post period.
The delivery date is outside of the required date of purchase period.

Ahhh, how about because that would be illegal? If you only paid $20 OTD, please have the decency not to send in the MIRs. I'm still waiting for my call from OM for my drive.

Show me the law you would be breaking if you sent in the rebates.

i was told by the manager @ the local OM that the rebates have been extended until ppl get them...other posts here seem to verify that.

While I pulled out of the online deal, my friend who also ordered stayed the course and recieved her drive yesterday. I'm shocked and impressed that Office max sent that out.

--------------------------------------------------------

If you READ the rules of the MIR, you will see that it says ONE rebate per product or offer. If you receive the MIR instantly at checkout because you received your hard drive after the promo period, you then used up your ONE MIR. Therefore to send it in again you are committing fraud. Fraud by the way is illegal. I'm not going to find the specific law, I'll let you or someone else do it. But something tells me that if you got the drive for $20 OTD, you'll send in the rebates(not valid because of numerous reasons), hopefully get rejected, then you'll come here and bad mouth OM and WD for not "honoring" their MIRs.

BTW, show me the OM ad that says you'll profit $40 if you buy this drive.

I picked my drive up today from behind the customer service counter. It looks like they had 4 boxes come in with around 20 in each(?). The CS lady also handed me a piece of paper from their news portal regarding the raincheck offer. It reads:

-------
Current News Page 1 of 1

Western Digital 80GB Hard Drive Raincheck Coupon
2/06/04

Rainchecks for the Western Digital 80gb Hard Drive are starting to be fulfilled.

- Use the ATTACHED $20 off coupon to reflect the advertised price from the 01-25-04 preprint.
- The OfficeMax and Manufacturer's rebates have been extended through 03-31-04 to accomodate those customers who were issued a raincheck.

... [lots of blank space] ...

http://maxweb.omx.com/Storebiz/Portal/NewsPages/index.htm 2/6/2004
-------

It looks like an Internet Explorer web page printout with the header and footer, and it is likely to only be accessible through their intranet.

I tried to use a competitor's coupon and they wouldn't accept it. I must send in the rebates to get the $20 price.

OM did give me the after rebate price for a Targus Wireless Optical Notebook Mouse before, but not this time with this product.

I ordered mine over the phone on 1/25/04.
It was delivered today, 2-9-04, via UPS.
They included a rebate book in the box.
The paperwork in the box states that it was processed on 2-4-04 and shipped on 2-5-04.
There's no mention of the delivery date being 2-9-04 in the paperwork.
UPS' website had it scheduled to be delivered by 2-10-04.
I picked some things up at OM today and asked the cashier about the OM rebate.
She mentioned that she heard they were still being honored. She said to send it in.

I recieved my drive today via shipping... in a mangled Office Max box nonetheless...

When I took the recipts into my local OM, the customer service rep assured me that they have extended the rebate for those who just now recieved it. I'm sending both off tomorrow, but I was really hoping to get the thing for $20 out the door...

I'll be waiting with baited breath for the rebates.

I mailed both rebates today.

Starting 2/15 there's another promo with a $10 MIR from OM and a $30 MIR from WD.
If OM adds a $10 IR or sale price,
it ends up being the same $0.25 per GB we jumped on in the last week of January.

How big a drive?

I think ParatoOptimal is talking about the same 80 GB drive.
The WD rebate form shows the same model number as offer D.

That's pretty funny. They haven't enough 80GB drives to honor the previous sale and here comes another for the very same drive.
I'm gonna rush right in Sunday morning.

Lucky bas*ard! The Edina (MN) store just called to tell me that my drive was in but I would have to file the rebates. Can't do that, I've already filed on the first drive I picked up.

Oh well.
