He assured me that it would still be honored, but to send it in quickly. One plus is that WD issued a memo yesterday stating that all who bought the drive at OM during the special will get an automatic no charge upgrade from the 1 year warranty to the 3 year warranty. This is because the advertisment pictured the three year warranty on the drive box. I assume that OM and WD don't want any go-rounds with the FTC. You have to register your drive with WD to get the warranty upgrade.

Now, when and if the rebates will come back ....... ???????

Good luck all.

Have you registered your drive and gotten confirmation that this is true? Any other info?

Sweeeeet:
I wrote to WDC about the warranty issue, this is what they said:

Greetings Crazy,

Thank you for contacting us regarding your warranty issue.

We have updated your warranty to 3 years as advertised by OfficeMax.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.

Kind Regards,
Christine

and at their website it says:
EIDE 7200RPM 80.0GB 04-Feb-2007 16-Feb-2004(purchase date)

When writing to them please be nice. It doesn't appear to happen automatically.

That's awesome (regarding the upgraded warranty). Did you mention the raincheck? Thanks.

No. I just told them the ad said "Special Edition", which it did, and that they were out of them so they gave me the regular HD. I just hope that people don't email WD and use this example to try and get a 3 year warranty if they didn't purchase it during this sale. I know OM has an 80GB HD for sale this week but it doesn't say, "Special Edition". Hopefully those that feel the need to abuse the system won't come here and post that they got their HD warranty extended too by saying, "But the ad said "Special Edition", if it doesn't. I'm glad I'm not that guy that pre-bought "5, Yes count 'em 5 HDs" and has to wait months for his $300 in rebates. I guess pre-buying doesn't always pay off.

I sent both of my $30 rebates in WITH a copy of the raincheck, even though the checkout person did not mention that I needed it. So far my OfficeMax rebate is showing valid and processing. Not sure what is going on with the WD rebate.

I sent in both rebates the day after the HD was delivered to my home.
I just got email notification that the rebate was rejected.
The page referenced by my tracking # didn't state why it was rejected or which of the two $30 rebates was rejected.
Both rebate forms were in the OM Rebate Book.
I sent the original UPC in with the rebate form that was for the HD only.
I sent a photo copy of the UPC with the OM type rebate form that is good for a hundred and one items.
I went to the Rebate Customer Service html page that was linked to the tracking number referenced page.
It allowed me to enter my info but there was no "Submit" button.

I experienced this the other day as well for another rejected rebate.
That rebate (not for a HD) was approved after I reached someone by phone and they admitted that it was THEIR error.
The CSR did not give me a reference # or email me.
She simply assured me that she would re-enter my info for an approved rebate.

Back to my HD situation.
I posted the no "Submit" button and the url in this forum.
Others seem to find a red "Submit" button. I still can't find it. The only things in red on my page are "Rebate Center" and "E-mail Us."
I thought the button would appear after I entered all required fields but there's still no button.

When the HD was delivered,
I asked a cashier at the store and was told to send all materials in as usual and the rebates would be honored.
They were aware of the late shipments.
I, of course, have scans of everything I sent.
I've never had a problem with any OM rebates in the past other than the one refused this week, later approved, and this one HD rebate.
CUSA has screwed me many times.
I'll certainly try to phone to find out why they're rejecting my rebate and which of the two $30 HD rebates they're rejecting.

*** UPDATE ***
I called today and they admitted it was THEIR mistake.
I asked for a confirmation number or an email to confirm my call and action taken.
The CSR told me I would receive an email when the check was sent.

I got my 80gb drive last night. They used a coupon code to get it the drive down to the sale price, but the code took off $10 more than expected. The rebate form that printed out with the receipt was for $50 instead of $60. However, they were handing out photocopied rebate forms for $60 rebates for the drive. That combined with a $10 off $40 coupon meant I will be getting this drive for free after rebate ... and selling it shortly to pay for the 2 160gb Maxtors I got from Staples!

I attempted to use a competitor's coupon for $15 off to get it for $5 after all rebates and coupons, but the cashier stated that since she had used a coupon code to reduce the price of the drive down by $20 to match the promotional price (I was using a raincheck), she could not use any additional coupons. You found the right cashier dgouldin.

I don't get it because even the SE drives no longer have 3 year warranties. How exactly did you get WD to upgrade your warranty? Was it because you paid for a 8 mb cache drive and only got a 2 mb cache drive, so WD felt sorry for you?

Also.. For those of you getting OM to give you the drive for $20 out the door without rebates, how are you doing this? I got a raincheck for a 160 gb drive and now my store is telling me that they can only give me the OM rebate, which would only knock $20 off the drive and make it $100. I would no longer qualify for the $50 manufacturer's rebate and my particular OM says that they can't give it to me, so.. I'm just going to tell them to stuff it. $100 is no deal.

It's a little easier to pull off when you're on the "inside". I know that sometimes the POS system won't let you enter multiple coupons. In this case, however, there wasn't a problem, so unless your coupon worked different than mine the cashier was BSing you.

The ad for the last week of January AND this past week, 2/15-2/21, showed an SE in the ad.

I'm pretty sure about the last week of January.
I've heard others mention it in this forum.

I'm positive about the 2/15-2/21 ad. I'm looking at it now.

I bought mine in the last week of January.
I received a non-SE HD. I haven't registered it yet.
My understanding from this forum was that registering online and mentioning the OM sale would get me a bump-up to 3-yr.
Will I or wont I?

I got the confirmation from OM that the $30 rebate from them is validated.
How to get the 3-year warranty from WD? I registered mine with WD after I saw the post about 3-year warranty, but it still showed 1-year from the purchase date. Do I have to email them to get it extended? Thanks.

I just email WD, and will update when they provide a reply.

If the San Leandro store burns down, I don't know anything about it.

All the stupid, dumb a** liars in that store, deserve to burn also.

I had been in 6 times looking for the hard drive. EVERY time, the person I talk to says "the last does not know what they are talking about, they gave you the wrong information".

The last trip was after receiving a call saying they had the drives in. Took 15 minutes to find ANYONE who knew anything about a HARD DRIVE that was RAIN CHECKED.

AND NO I DON'T WANT A MOUSE, I'M SURE.

The clerk rings it up at $80. I say "I was told by the last manager it would be $20 OUT THE DOOR". I get the "NO SHE WAS WRONG" story again.

SCREW THE SAN LEANDRO STORE AND OFFICE MAX IN GENERAL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I feel better now. Thanks

ok sorry to dig this thing up...but i received some updates regarding my rebate. yesterday i got an email for another OM rebate ($10 for the thumbdrive, i mailed this one w/ the HD rebates the same on 2/19)...curious i went to check on the rebate status for the HD. it says its invalid. wtf is up w/ that? i got the HD prepaid (paid $80 for it that Sunday, unlike those who got the slips for rainchecks) and i mailed the rebates as soon as i picked them up from my local once they finally came in.

here's a screenshot from the OM Rebate site: officemax_rebate.jpg
o yeah, when i click on the status detail about invalid, it doesnt offer any clues/help as it only explains the various ways a rebate can be invalid.
btw, i checked rebateshq.com for the WD manufacture rebate, but nothing has come up yet.
anyone else got his/her rebate or having problems too? what should i do?

I think I got the same deal as you vexingv.

I received back today the manufacturer's rebate from WD and the $10 rebate from Officemax for the thumb drive.
For some reason they thought I had submited 2 $10 thumb drive rebates.
So I had to resubmit the UPC and receipt for the $20 rebate.
still waiting on it...

You have to fight for it though.
Call them up.

And remember to keep copies of everything.

biggerwang,
you got correspondence through the mail? i received an email informing me of my valid and waiting to be fulfilled rebate on the thumbdrive, but i only stumbled upon the invalid status of the hard drive by searching for my rebates. good thing i made scans of stuff before i sent them out, but should i bring this up to my local OM or call OM customer service? and did i read incorrectly or did you already get your rebate check from WD ? that was fast, when did you mail out your rebates?

My OM Rebate for the 80 GB drive came up as valid, no problems. The rebateshq rebate, though, came up as invalid, it said I did not send a receipt. They are such idiots. This rebate had one of those new, printed out forms. For those you don't need to send a receipt or a copy. So I called them and explained that and they validated the rebate right away. So irritating that you gotta correct these people all the time.
