OM rebate on page 5, WD rebate on page 43.

Store opened at 11:00 ... I was late leaving to get there and parked at 11:01. By then the amassed hordes had descended on the (now opened) store. Got to the HD aisle and found a blank shelf. My local OM is tricky like that and what they do is store them in the backroom by the customer service desk, so I headed up there leaving the n00bs to search the shelves. They pulled about 16 drives out and set them on the counter and I got one of them. I had used my Xmas gift cards a month ago to score a WD 160gb SE for $80 after rebate and now walked out with an 80gb SE for $25, plus $60 MIRs. Thats $140 coming my way in 3 months which will go towards buying a 5900.

Great deal ... thank you again AT !!

Just got back from my local OM and unfortunately my 'deal guy' is out sick this week and was unable to stash some drives for me. Damn!! However, I was able to get the rain check.

I went to my OM this morning for the heck of it to see if I could get the burner for $10. They were sold out of it, but to my surprise, had some 80 gb hard drives stashed behind the shelf. I couldn't get a raincheck on the burner because the guy said that they were getting more in Tuesday. We shall see.

Here is the manufacturer's online rebate submission: Western Digital
I don't think OM has updated their listing (the pcash rebate) on the maxmyrebates website. I'm guessing it'll be up in the next couple of days.

PDF's of rebates:
1) OM $30 rebate must be postmarked within 14 days of purchase. Copy of UPC goes with this one.
2) WD $30 rebate must be postmarked within 30 days of purchase. Original UPC goes with this one since it is the manufacturer's rebate.

EDIT: Fixed links and corrected the WD rebate

I grabbed one of the last five I think from the OM in New Orleans just 20 minutes after opening. Whew. Of course while standing in line to check out it started to rain like a s0b.

Cranberry, PA OM is out, out, out as of 10:15 am- store opened at 10, said they had 28 or so

Of course I went yesterday and had one being held for me so I waded through the crowds that were still foolish to think that there would be some left a 1 pm, picked mine up and off I went. I got the evil eyes as I checked out.

thanks Hot Deals!

Are you guys getting as hot as a deal as I am? I went to my local Office Max in Sioux Falls South Dakota and they were out of these Hard Drives. The guy said that they ordered a bunch of them but never got them in stock yet. He said since they never had any, they are doing rainchecks. Instead of actually having to send in all of the rebates, the guy told me that they are all going to be instant rebates instead of mail in, so its $20 out the door in the Sioux Falls area. They are supposed to give me a call sometime this week or the beginning of next week for when they come in. Then I get to pick up my 80 Gig WD SE hd for only $20.
Anyone out there in the Sioux Falls area, go down to Office Max now and get your raincheck.

Went to my local OM in CT - there was a small line. Ugly scene though - 2 grown men yelling at each other, fighting over the last 80GB drive. I just grabbed a couple of the MS optical mice for $4.99 each.

No hard drive is worth arguing over. Looks like the makings of a new TV reality show - advertise a great deal, only stock 1 or 2 of the item, then hide a camera on the shelf and watch people pummel each other ...

Went to my local OM 3 hours after it opened.........they still had over a dozen or so still in stock, but that figures since this OM rarely sells out of ANY advertised special. They always seem to have what's advertised in stock days after the sale begins...sometimes even up to the last day of the sale.

Like the 8X DVD-rw that was on sale two weeks ago......they never sold through their original stock to get to the substitution Lite-On drives........I had to drive an hour to find an OM that WAS substituting. Oh well, it does make it nice to have one that is almost always guaranteed to have whatever is advertised in stock no matter the time or day.

WD hard drive update / question. I just went and picked one up in KC. When I get home to get the rebate ready, I notice the drive says "1-Yr standard warranty" The model is WD800JBRTL. It is the 8MB cache drive, BUT, on the front of the package where the Special Edition is at usually, mine says 8 MB Cache....
Is this what everyone else is getting or has gotten?
If I keep this one, I'd have to pay an additional $14.95 for an upgraded 3Yr warranty thru WD...making my 19.95 around the $35 range...
I guess its still a decent buy depending on how you look at , huh?

me: "how does rebate work with raincheck?"
manager: "you dont have to worry about it, you will pay $19.99 when we get more"
me: ":Q:QCan I get more than 1? :Q"
manager: "no, 1 per customer"

Yes, the drives are 1 year warranty now and you have to pay online to get extended.

I went in to my local store and my wife and I got there at like 10:02am after the store opened. Unbelievably, there were like over a dozen people with hard drives running around the store. I just happend to walk in when a CSR was bringing out the very last 3 from the stock they had in back. I snagged one just in time. Wheew. I think its so lame that they run these deals and you have to be there just in time cause there's no way they will have any for the rest of the week I'm sure.

Then I was gonna get the 25 pack of DVD+R's, which they didn't have, and then the lady said they were substituting something else, and of course she comes back and says that they are out of the substitutes as well. Such a joke!

Oh well, I got a HD that I really don't need, but for $20 its worth it.

Yea, it's advertised as Special Edition, but WD has stopped making 8MB cache drives with 3 year warranty for a while. So mine was labeled with a 1 yr.

But...check on WDC's site to see how long your warranty actually is. Despite the packaging, my drive is under warranty until Jan 2007!

The stores here in MN are all doing rainchecks. I was somewhere in the 10th-15th range at the Northtown store. I was able to do two rainchecks which was nice. If they come in after the rebate period, then $19.99 +tax out the door will be very cool.

Lucky? I wouldn't say so *not to burst your bubble. However, I was a little surprised to find out that OM's policy to is to sell out-of-stock sale products (AR's) for the net after rebate price once inventory of the product is restocked.

Are you saying that giving a rain check for the after MIR price is standard policy for OM? I went to an Office Max about 1 hour after they opened, and they were out of the hard drives. They told me I could get a raincheck, but it would be for $79.99 (The price after instant rebate and before MIRs). They expected the drives to be back in stock on Saturday (which would be too late for the MIR). I then tried another OM, but the lady said they can't give rain checks on the hard drive. I might try again later this week to see if they could give me a raincheck for $19.99. If I could get one for $19.99 +tax out the door, that would be great.

There was a line outside my OfficeMax this morning from people trying to get in on this deal. I managed to get the last one in the store.

now to wonder if most stores will get a restock shipment considering the warehouses are being bombarded with online orders.

Because of the Mfr's rebate $30, manager would only issue a raincheck for $49.99. It normally delivers within one week, but the deal is this hot, I highly doubt. If it is too late, I will have to return it. YMMV.
