Few days ago, I went to Fry's to get 80GB Western Digital drive. It was only for $38 after Rebet. I decided not to buy it because I saw way too many RETURNED 80GW Western Digital drives by customers.

Make sure to read reviews on this drive before buying it.

The reason being is that these were (if not still are) one of the most popular HD's in history, so of course there are going to be many, many more returned ones. Just my $.02.

Western Digital is about the only drive I buy. It's been a reliable name brand for me over the years. Other brands that have cr*ped out on me over the years include IBM, Seagate and Maxtor. WD just keeps on going and going. Also, I remember back in the day when trying to run hard drives on a RAID set up, it was recommended not to mix and match name brands. Is this still the case?

This seems like a pretty cold deal to me...last Wednesday I picked up a 250 GB Maxtor for $99 with no rebates.

Paying almost $1 per gig seems excessive right now.

Hot or cold will depend on wether you can get a better deal at the time. Can I still get a 250GB drive for $ 99.00 today? Was this a black friday price?

80gb for $65.00?? ouch!
Although,WD is a better drive, I recently had one cr@p out on me.
So, to me, a drive is a drive.

I'm happy with the 60gb Maxtor that I ordered online from MicroCenter.
Cost a whole $19.99. Turns out to about .33¢ a gig.

Well... besides the fact that this it is Western Digital. You might want to go with a more reputable vendor. like Newegg. This isn't exactly the best price regardless. 80gb BB models only have 1 year warranty whether they are retail or OEM so you should go for a 80gb JB model (OEM only) where you get a three year warranty. Besides that you get better performance since it's 2mb cache versus the 80gb JB 8mb cache.

At newegg for the OEM WD800JB 80gb 8mb cache model with 3 year warranty for $58 + $4.69 shipping = $62.69
