WD hard drives...any good?

I have had MANY WD drives and trust me, they DO NOT fail.

I have had 2 of these wonderful Seagates people keep talking about fail. :/

I ownb WD drives that are 3-4 years old.

I like WD and have had no issues (now where is that wood.)

The last Seagate I had issues with was a 46MB, yes, MEGA Byte. I learned what stiction was with that one (MFM? - it was in an AT). In the pools of them I have seen recently, they have been reliable.

From the server realm, I learned how to spell stiction from IBM. Will never recommend IBM drives (now owned by Hitachi). More than 50% of the 10GB EIDEs, I know of, lost track 0 from year 2-5. Yuck.

Maxtor - I have seen one minor and one significant firmware issue with Maxtors. The minor was resolved with changing jumpers for CS to MS/SL. The other one, I cannot discuss, but it is not anything you would buy. But otherwise, they have been good (about 10000).

Last WD issue I remember was a 4 platter drive about 10-12 years ago. I thought it was 160MB, but it has been a freaking long time.

All manufacturers make products that fail. I've had a Maxtor running strong for six years, yet I see countless posts calling them junk. I now have 2 Western Digital drives for my new system. On is a SATA (very quiet), and one is an external drive (slightly less quiet). If I were in the market for a new HD, I would get the hard drive with the features I want for the best price, regardless of manufacturer.

Just thought I'd mention something obvious here......why not get an exterrnal drive?
As for which brand is best I have over a dozen of each brand except IBM that have been running over 6 years 24/7 only had 1 crash so far. It was a maxtor, but probably damaged from being moved from TX to CA. I had a couple old IBM drives in other machines, and when I shut one down for 2 months it wouldn't spin until I kick started it with a screwdriver. But back then ('98-99) thier stiction problems were pretty well known.
