WD just released a 3TB hard drive

Hopefully this means we'll see 640gb platters from WD, along with a single platter 640gb hard drive (which I will promptly purchase in all likelihood).

I'll bet WD is going to quietly make all the 640gb drives single platter, it's simply a matter of when they'll do it. I'd say within 2-3 months we should see it, perhaps sooner.

I asked on the newegg forum what manufacture date people are getting on their 640GB drives and if they are breaking the ~120MB/s sustained rate ... never know they could already be out there in the wild.
Advanced format would be nice too ...

Uhm i thought this new 3TB drive had 750GB platters? Apparently this WD drive has 4 platters whilst seagate's 3TB drive has 5 platters. I'd be willing to bet my computer we'll see 4TB drives 2011. Increasing platter density from 750->800 for a 5 platter drive shouldnt be too hard.

lol honestly this is too much space, for me 320GB is enough, 500 is great, but anyhting higher, you will never fill up unless its porn LOL or piracy stuff,, I run my DAW on a F4 and use my 320GB WDC as project drive. The 120GB WDC with 40k plus hours on it is just sitting there lol nothing in it,,, maybe I can fill it with porn LOL thanks again ViviTheMage lol
