Lemme quote the warranty section of the product page from this retailer below:

If its 5 years why didn't they put that there?

Let me put it this way. I would need to call them, get them to quote me a warranty length and that it was new and not refurbished and I'd still probably wait until someone here ordered it and confirmed with the WD website that thier serial had the full 5 year warranty.

I can see it going both ways, either they didn't put the warranty length in the warranty section because they didn't want to bother doing it for products, or because they knew there wasn't any, or it was a 90 day or 1 year for refurbished.

Take a look at the raptor 74 gig webpage:

You'll notice some funny things about it. 1) the price is almost as much as the 150 gig raptor. 2) the warranty mentioned is ONLY through them, no manufactures warranty from WD, no 5 year, not even a 1 year manufacture warranty. In otherwords its a warrantyless drive (aside from the retailer return thing).

Price drop at clubIT making it $263 shipped, which is lower than any shipped price before (at the popular retailers, at least that I've seen).

Also, I emailed those guys who have it for $250, and they replied. They claim that its new, and full 5 year manufacture warranty. YMMV, if anyone does it with them, let us know once you've checked the serial number on WD website.

It is brand new. It has a 5 year limited warranty through Western Digital.

Thanks, linked to LukeMan's post about it since he posted first. I ordered one, for that price who can pass it up?
Much better deal than the previous couple that were posted about here that had no warranty at all (besides through the retailer). Much cheaper too.
Basically its a dell rebranded 150 gig raptor without any WD warranty (seems to have a 1 year dell warranty):
Its a 160 gig hdd (likely the normal 150 gig raptors are short stroked, so this one just removes the short stroking. You can accomplish the same thing by partitioning).

Ok, looks like the Dell deal is dead, went up to $209 (mine was shipped yesterday). Odds are you can probably find a $10 or $15 coupon so you can still get it from them for less, but without the WD warranty, I'm not sure its worth it anymore.

Especially considering the new price drops. Almost everyone has dropped in price since my last update to OP.
Newegg is down to $225 AR (the same rebate works on the raptor X windowed version as well) while ZZF is now $250 shipped.
In retrospect, that shady looking merchant isquared may have been legit after all, since it looks like WD must have put a price drop through, everyone has about the same price now around $250-$260 or so. However, with all the good merchants being that price as well, much better idea to go with a well known known site.

Bumped because of a massive price drop on the Raptor X, down to $235AR at newegg. Note that the rebate isn't linked on that page, but its linked on the normal raptor page at newegg. Its possibly a price mistake, instead of linking the rebate and saying save $50 they may just have reduced the price of the drive.
Anyway, if you have wanted a raptor X, now is the time to get one. I've never seen it that low.

Bump for more massive price reductions on the raptor. Down as low as $220 shipped from ZZF for rebate haters, and $200 AR shipped at newegg if you dont mind a rebate.

I've never seen the raptor this low (except that one time dell deal that didn't have a WD warranty).

Quite a significant price differance over the $300 or so MSRP when the drive first came out.

I don't need the extra capacity but if the 150GB Raptor produces the same heat level and sound as the 74GB, I'll take the extra performace of the 150GB.

To me its about the same as the 74 gig one. My opinion seems to be borne out by tests:

Wow. Why does it sound like an old ringer alarm clock going off at the end of those MP3's? Is the microphone being rested on the Raptors themselves, or are they being placed on a plate, or it that what they really sound like when seeking heavily?

The microphone was centered 3" above the top face of the hard drive. The ambient noise during most recordings is 18 dBA or lower.
To set the volume to a realistic level (similar to the original), try playing the Nexus 92 fan reference recording and setting the volume so that it is barely audible. Then don't reset the volume and play the other sound files.

Unfortunately since the page seems to be offline, I can't seem to get a link to the nexus 92 fan recording for the reference. Unless you know how loud to play the mp3 recording its difficult to see how loud it would be compared to reality.

From my personal experiance, the sound is about like the previous raptor as I mentioned. Its a little louder than the other non raptor drives in the system, but not massivly so. The test links (like from AT) that I linked earlier, its about 1 db higher seek noise than the 74gig raptor.

Also, I'm a bit of a noise freak myself, and I can live with the raptors (I've had 74g and 150g ones). I've replaced all fans in my computer with 120mm nexus fans, and I often run them at what is essentially a lower voltage with a fan control. The CPU heatsink has a 120mm fan, and with AMD cool n quiet, its never been up to full RPM, not even while gaming. I've replaced the very noisy chipset fan with a tall passive heatsink. My graphics card is a passive heatsink model. My power supply has a temperature controlled 120mm fan that is quiet and I dont think I've ever heard it on full speed. My hard drives are all in vibration reducing mounting cages (its amazing how much you can lower noise with something like that).
Oh and I've replaced the stock uber noisy 24v fan on my APC smart ups unit with a lower noise version.
I'm betting that you haven't gone quite to the same extent with your computer
