WD Raptor 74gig 10000rpm power cable question

I have an easy question for a WD Raptor owner?

Do I have to have a special SATA hard drive power connector or will a regular 4pin molex work?

I am curious because I want to buy one and ZZF offers a combo kit with a special connector. http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=101222-316604 But the motherboard I am buying comes with SATA data connectors. Most of the online stores only sell OEM drives, so I am afraid that if I get one of these I will be without a power connector.

The Raptor does have a power input for a standard 4pin molex, and a SATA power input.

The special connector that comes with the zipzoomfly package is a SATA mobo connector. It covers the SATA port on the back of the Raptor and the SATA power connector. If you use the "SecureConnect" cable, then you must use 4pin molex to power the Raptor. If you use just a normal SATA mobo cable, then you can power it through the SATA power connector.

I actually ordered that same package from zipzoomfly. I like the SecureConnect, I don't know if it actually does thing better, but they claim the connection is strong when using it, so I power my Raptor through the 4pin molex.

The SecureConnect is a great device and if you do not have it I would do as essential recommends and use the 4 Pin Molex connector...

I just installed the Raptor and have it as my boot drive. I too used the Secure Connect and molex.

Q: On my nForce4 board, there is a little icon in the right corner that is the same icon for USB removable devices with the option of "safely removing device." I can't seem to get rid of it. Does anyone else's system do this? Currently, it is the only HD on the system and I'm using the latest nforce drivers with my DFI nforce4 Lanparty. Any help appreciated...

Yea, I have that too, both my SATA HD's show up there. I don't know why either, but stop trying to get rid of it, as far as I know no one has been able to figure out why it's there.

Point the mouse @ the clock then right click properties/customize and then hide when inactive. It can't bother you if you don't see it

OK the icon in the corner...I guess SATA devices are all hot swappable, meaning you can unplug them with the power still on. I guess that's why the icon is there. Definitely don't like looking at it though. Thanks for the "hide" tip LED!

Like carlwu said ... they're hot swappable and basically like USB drives I guess in a sense. That's why they show up there.

I just got mine from FedEx this morning. Awesome drive. And I didnt have to spend an outrageous amount for good performance.

Am currently using the standard power connector for all my SATA drives. When they start making SATA standard on every type of drive then I might make the move over to new technology.
