Current 10k drives don't whine, at least the current IBM/Hitachi ones don't. They just make this incredible noise every minute and half that sounds like some sick tape drive. Get an array of those things and it sounds really funky...
I'm going to record the damn thing now that I think about it! Reminds me of a hippy friend of mine whose girlfriend drove her car into a lake. We pulled it out and got it running again and everything seemed ok but the horn! It made a noise that made heads turn!
Yes I would take SCSI over SATA any day! Two drives in a system isn't enough. Now if you were allowed to chain more than one drive per wire, that would be sooooooper!
SCSI drives perform slower then the WD SE drives in apps. But are obviously faster in transfers rates though.
Slower in apps . One of the reason I won't go SCSI as they are slower in apps
Slower in Apps? I don't think so. Program loading perhaps. Of course RAID HBA's with lots of cache and fast processors negate any differences. The Raptor is THE fastest drive in the non SCSI realm, but SCSI belongs (and will always) in any production and/or mission critical machine. Most desktop users want more than 36GB so...
What the F to do? Use a Raptor for root and get a bigass IDE drive to store all your p..stuff.
