I just got my drives today and boy do they tear it up. Controller is on-board Silicon Image on an Asus A7N8X Deluxe, XP 2700+, 1Gb Ram(333Mhz).

Starts at: 111 MB/s
Ends at: 75.2 MB/s

If anyone can let me know how to get the graph from WinBench after the benchmark has run I'd appreciate it.

My seagate makes no sound at all. But I could possibly sacrifice that for this setup.

how does this compare with the Maxtor 160GB SATA drive? That drive is also very fast.

Can you also run HDTach 2.61 and ATTO and post the results?

You'll all hate me...but I run 4 60GB Seagate's in RAID 0 and damn is it fast.

I have another 80GB for my redundant backup, cticial stuff burned to CD.

have you experienced any data corruption? all i hear about in the abit forums is how the Silicon image SATA controller is making life hell in RAID. the Asus uses the same SATA controller--are you having the same problems?

while those would be cool to have i just replaced all my drives in my main machine and probably won't be upgrading for a while... maybe gen 3 raptors would be out by the time i do... would be sweet.

I've had one problem but I'm not sure it attributes to the SATA controller. I'll let you know if I have any other problems.

cool, thanks. i am running with dual raptors in RAID 0 right not on my SiI 3112R onboard controller. man, the machine boots up so fast it is incredible! i am going to start banging around some 4GB DVD ISOs and see how they work. hehehe.

Thanks for the benchmarks. I am getting a pair of the Raptors in a few weeks to run RAID0 on the Intel IHC5R controller and am very excited about it.

Im setting them up as raid 0 as well. but having some trouble. First did you need to change the jumpers on the drives for master/slave? Oh and I did get it to work, when I installed them i didn't change the jumper which are on cable select by default, does that affect these types of drives or RAID 0? heres my set up anyhow. 2 other weird anomallys I noticed is that they show up as SCSI drives under properties, I'm wondering if that a windows xp or promise raid controller issue that it doesn't read them as SATA? help?

2.4ghz p4
2 gigs Twinx Corsair DDR400
2 Raptors
Motherboard i875 (asus p4c800d)

Can you post your results with that setup when you get them.

Seagates are quiet, but they are also slower in transfer and access times compared to like Maxtor and WD drives.

I didn't mess with the jumpers at all.

Can you hear the wd raptor ?? or is it quiet?

I can't hear them at all. Any sound they do make is easily covered by my CPU fan.

problem is, the rest of my system is easily within the 25db range, I've made everything as quiet as possible without sacrificing speed. heheh I wish someone I knew had these drives running so I could see and hear them first hand.
