I just tried online. Found the items and the coupon but they are backordered and it would not take the coupon with those items.

Either I have the wrong coupon (worked fine until checkout) of they added the no coupon option.

Update, other coupon listed on chubbybillfold worked fine. Wonder about the backorderedness of items.

OfficeMax has the Western Digital 120GB Hard Drive + Imation 100pk CDRs for $30(+TAX) after $95 MIRs.

$30 off $150 coupon(It's out there).
Click on "Order by Item Number" near the top middle.
Enter 02236903 for the CDR ($25) and 20346127 for the 120GB HD ($130).
Send in $20 HDD rebate, $50 HDD rebate and $25 CDR rebate.
Final price is $155 - $30 coupon - $95 rebates = $30 w/ free shipping.

My order with tax is $39.33 after I receive my MIRs. * I had to place the order 4 times to get the coupon to work but OM did take it online.

FWIW:
If you do this deal (HD only) at the store(s), be sure to have them look for the "Special Edition" drive which is the drive pictured in the CC and OM ads (and if possible PM to the MicroCenter ad recently mailed or print from their website - $111.99 for SE edition).

This is not as good a deal as via om.com, but the 3 year SE drive warranty makes it viable. My local CC didn't have any SE drives on hand and the first drive from lock-up at the nearby OM was the std 1-year drive. Had the mgr specifically check for an SE drive and then he located one. Cost with tax = $120.67, so AR cost =$50.67. I think WD will sell the SE warranty for $25 - $30 more if they are offering it like early last summer.

Ok, I've gotten two brand new units. They are ever so slightly different, both Malaysian made. Does anyone know which one might be better manufactured? One has model number WD 1200JB-OOCRA1, and the other WD 1200JB-22EVAO.

I got a 120 GB WD SE for the same price just after Thanksgiving and it has been running fine, so far (fingers crossed). It does make a bit more noise when seeking than my old 80GB SE that I had in my system for over a year. After I got my new drive the old one went into a Shuttle SFF system I put together for my wife's grandma for Christmas, got shipped across the US and is still working fine. So far I've not had any trouble with any of the WD drives I've bought.

At your shop tedinde, do you buy any retail drives or just OEM? It's possible that the OEM drives may not be QC'd quite as stringently as the retail boxed drives. I'm sure the majority of Dell, Gateway and HP customers will have no idea what brand their drives are when it fails and needs to be replaced, so they don't worry about tranishing their reputation by cutting a few corners in the QC department to save money. I'd say that they the suits at WD figure that public perception rides on the reliability of their boxed product, so I'd expect those drives to get tested more thoroughly before they go out the door.

I don't know if this is what actually happening, but I do know that the one drive that I've owned which has gone teats-up on me has been an OEM version, whereas all of my retail drives have worked flawlessly. I haven't bought a whole lot of drives, so it isn't exactly scientific, but I'd be curious to know if anyone who has bought a lot of both retail and OEM drives has seen more failures with the OEMs.

I've used WD for years but I have had some trouble with their drives since I went to the 120GB versions. I have both a 2MB and an 8MB in my PC and the 2MB has gone bad on me 2 times in 3 years. The first time I got an OEM at a local PC shop and the RMA replacement for that drive has gone bad on me now. If the RMA replacement for this one goes bad in the next year or so, I'll probably be done with WD until they get things worked out.

Same thing at Circuit City - WD1200JBRTL $129.99 less$50 mfr MIR less $20 CC MIR.

Isn't the drive at CC a 2mb cache unit? I went to CC on the last 160gb deal (a week or two ago?) and all they had were tons of 2mb ones. Not a huge deal, but FYI. But I'm not sure if it's different this week.
