Oh joy now we can pay $300+ dollars for a video card. I sure hope ati steps it up.
Normally I am an nvidia fan but this sucks.

Hardware...

<< I hope I lost now my "GUTB" status >>

That's going to take these characteristics/actions:

  • Sound reasoning behind your posts.
Sources to back up your claims
    A lack of zealotry
    Unbiasing yourself from the facts
    Reliquishing your hubris
    Learning humility

After completing those, I'll stop viewing you as a GUTB/Hyper99/Nowhereman troll.

Hardware, no matter how often you're correct, you'll never be *right* in my book!

<< Hardware, who do you bash now? Do you now pick on Matrox or ATI first? >>

Probably any company that hires Bubba Wolford.

Now there's only nVidia and crappy 2D... sigh. I guess my Matrox G400 Max is going to have to last me a little longer!

Til the last day I had a good laugh about something like "low stock means nothing..."
Dave who told many of you "I know everything" infact knowed nothing

Some kudos to 3dfx for make believing most people the will soon rule the world and go out of business (no money no products no stuff ) the next day!

zeeliv - I tend to try and stay away from General Hardware Forum because I dislike much of what goes on, the zealotry, etc. I just read a few things that Harddware's said, and I assumed he wasn't english. While I wasn't particuarly "nice" in my other post to Hardware, I wasn't trying to be mean by asking if english was his first language...

As big as a fan as I USED to be of 3dfx, their demise is WONDERFUL NEWS! I've always believed that "...what goes around comes around...". 3dfx had NO SCRUPLES when it purchased STB and then DUMPED, literally DUMPED it's LONG TIME OEM partners like Diamond Multimedia (not yet part of S3 at that time), Creative Labs, Hercules (not yet purchased by Guillemot at that time) and countless others who relied on their (3dfx) chipsets for videocards that accounted for a LARGE portion of their sales. Through mergers and buyouts the "other" videocard companies survived and 3dfx's PROPRIETARY scheme BACKFIRED on them..........

GOOD RIDDANCE!!!!!

I still think Hardware should stay awake during 7th grade English class. I have to read his posts really slow and about three times before I can decipher the message. Poor punctuation and spelling mistakes make it frustrating to read.

HARDWARE aka dipsh*t,

If 3DFX was SO WORTHLESS, Nvidia would not have bought them out. They see some worth in 3DFX technology.

With NVidia's competition now gone, I'm sure we can expect their high-end solutions to increase in price even more.

Hardware, you REALLY think you're smart now, don't you....guess what, you really don't know anything about graphics cards. You just happened to be a blithering idiot that was obsesed with making fun of a certain company that just happened to go down. You really don't know anything. Try and contest that dude......sorry, you can't, my post has now been ***CONFIRMED***

Well, hardware this must be your happiest day. Why anyone would be happy to see the demise of a company is beyond me. Do you have any clue that there are people that work there? People who earn their living for their families? These people got this news just before Christmas. I think you are worse than GUTB ever was. You are really not right in the head to have your hatred for a video card company be the main focus of your life. I mean, you actually tie the birth or your child to a 3dfx event. How weird is that? The reason people flame you is because they can't stand your moronic attitude ****CONFIRMRD*****!

Now all we have to do is get rid of that pesky ATI and Matrox. It would be great to have only one manufacturer to choose from. This way, we wont even have to worry about who has the best product, or what it costs. I think competition is way overrated.

So hardware, what's next? I'm sure you can rant on about 3dfx for another month or two, but then what? Have you planned out your next little "war" yet?

dave is going to have some fun... ummm... so now nvidia has good tiler tech... or... hmmm... could just pull a disney... the guys who actually hold the patents on everything are going to form a new company called "3Dfx?" (note the big D)

i guess its good that i'll be stuck with chips that draw too much power, make too much heat, cost too much, and boards that have really bad 2D.

<< My analyse was 100% right! How many fools flamed me for telling the truth! >>

<< I had to observe and think about it. Strange enough it was very easy to see (the outcome) but most people were fooled by 3dfx. >>

<< Well nevertheless greeting to my fans and flamers. I hope I lost now my "GUTB" status! >>

<< Til the last day I had a good laugh about something like "low stock means nothing..." Dave who told many of you "I know everything" infact knowed nothing >>

<< I cant understand how anybody could be surprised by that with all the disaster news out there about 3dfx (one week ago) and no response from 3dfx!!! come on boys just count 1+1 >>

It's a good thing Hardware is humble.

<< Now I have to care about my 7 month old son (which was born the same day 3dfx released the v5500 >>

The fact that you associate the birth of your son with the release of the V5 is very disturbing. I'd like to know what your wife's opinion of your crusade has been.

Wait, correct me if I'm wrong, but the V5 5500 was released in mid-July...that would make it 5 months ago, not 7...

This is indeed a sad day for the 3D accelerator market.

My condolences to those that lost their jobs and more. To those engineers and technitions that made it their lifes work to develop the products for 3dfx, my hat is off to you guys as one engineer to another.

To see the company that was responcible for 3D acceleration on the PC sold off is a sad thing.

  1. Hardware accelerated graphics
  2. Multi-card rendering
  3. Multi-chip rendering
  4. FSAA

For these and many other industry leading ideas, kudo's to 3dfx.

Already I have heard that nVidia is laying back on release of their NV20. The lack of competition will only serve to raise prices, reduce the speed ramp, and generally hurt the consumer.

I was really hoping that 3dfx would pull a rabbit out of its hat, but alas, it is not to be.
