This is indeed a sad day for the 3D accelerator market.
My condolences to those that lost their jobs and more. To those engineers and technitions that made it their lifes work to develop the products for 3dfx, my hat is off to you guys as one engineer to another.
To see the company that was responcible for 3D acceleration on the PC sold off is a sad thing.
- Hardware accelerated graphics
- Multi-card rendering
- Multi-chip rendering
- FSAA
For these and many other industry leading ideas, kudo's to 3dfx.
Already I have heard that nVidia is laying back on release of their NV20. The lack of competition will only serve to raise prices, reduce the speed ramp, and generally hurt the consumer.
I was really hoping that 3dfx would pull a rabbit out of its hat, but alas, it is not to be.
