I wouldn't be jumping up and down like an nvidiot right now claiming your analysis was right when the real show stopper is that the consumer is now in a worse-off situation. One less player in the market...one less competitor to price-match and feature-match by Nvidia. Matrox is for all intents and purposes out of the gamers market leaving only ATI. I speculate that ATI will look towards the embedded market for future growth and start to leave the performance graphics business. We now have a monopoly on our hands

It's all survival of the fittest...3dfx in the end had the worse product and was unable to pull through. nVidia wins.


What I see in the future: new cards put out that are the bleeding edge of tech, midrange cards that are slightly older but just as affordable as the midrange cards of today, and nVidia not slowing down and never looking back.

They've got a good track record so far, and 3dfx is already gone...let's just wait and see what happens. If nVidia DOES end up being the &quot;bad guy&quot;, speak with your wallets, folks. Otherwise, don't complain about things that haven't even happened yet.


Now if only those damn BitBoys would actually produce on what has been only vaporware...

Intel sure enjoyed telling us that in the 80s when your only choice in CPU was Intel. But you're right, for now there's still competition and prices are still sane.

This could get ugly for us. As much as i dislike 3DFX products, its not good for competition, let alone, prices. Lets see, now Nvidia has 1 other graphics company and a soundcard company. I can see it now, a full intergrated motherboard with onboard 3d and aureal a3d 3.0. Or possibly an AGP card with onboard sound... That puts the race between ATI and Nvidia. Hmm, Matrox, where are you?

I see this as bad news. Although Nvidia has been &quot;king of the hill' for a while. I still believed that it was conceivable that 3dfx might come out with a Killer product at some stage in the future. I would have prefered aTI to take them over if anyone did.
