If I were to be put into a Matrix type simulation where there is no difference from reality to my mind AND it was treated like my own personal simulation of the world where I had godlike powers, absolutely.

That's fine we will still need people to keep tabs on the robots that run the world to make sure they don't decide to pull the plug on all of us.

I really do see something like this coming about eventually. In the future when robots occupy the vast majority of available jobs something will need to be done with the jobless. Not everyone is going to be some scientist, artist or permanent tourist in the world. Letting people plug in to a virtual world where they can be whoever they want, whenever they want, however they want would be an excellent way to keep the population from going in to some sort of unrest. It would be the ultimate form of population control. Who wouldn't have fun facing down a Roman Legion with an Abrams tank or maybe you would like to visit or live in feudal Japan or be the captain of a federation starship. What I am talking about could be used for anything from a virtual vacation to a complete life replacement.

No one knows until it is possible I suppose. It could be like a game with cheats where you play it for a few hours beat it then you have nothing left to do and quit. But with this you could just create another scenario I guess. The kind of perfect virtual reality I am talking about is quite far off and may never be possible but in the theme of the thread if people already kill themselves by playing WoW too long now how bad will it be in the future with full immersion? Even a sub par obvious fake virtual reality would suck millions of people into it to the detriment of all else.
