Whether or not it has been a 3rd world country is not really a good question as "3rd world" doesn't seem to have a solid definition. However, from the mid 1800s to the early 1900s millions of Italians left Italy due to poverty and lack of means to generate income. People don't think it is impossible, People think it is probable, and the nay sayers like the OP are the ones pushing for it to happen by calling on bank runs and telling people to get the money out and do something with it. What are you going to do with it. If you have it in cash now or in a bank later, it's going to be worth the same thing. And by the OP's belief, it will be worth nothing. Buying gold and oil won't be that good for you to keep on hand because if the US fails, those 2 commodities won't matter. Food stuffs and guns are going to be the big ticket items.
