The Korean style fried chicken that I've always had has been way over-fried--it's like gnawing on rocks. and is somewhat...bland. and it's mostly tenders, right? usually boneless.

I'd love to try Pollo Campero, and with those other latino chicken joints that are supposed to be everywhere, but are sadly lacking in Berzerkeley. Pollo Loco, for example.

Yes, Korean style fried chicken is extremely over-fried chicken. They like their chicken really crispy. But it's not tenders. Whole chicken cut into pieces like you get at any other fried chicken places. They also have spicy chicken which they drown it in extremely spicy sauces.

I haven't tried Pollo Loco. I have one less than a mile away from my house but haven't gone there because they don't serve fried chicken. They serve grilled chicken, not fried. Pollo Campero has both fried and grilled chicken.

hmm, interesting. I was searching for a word other than tenders, but I didn't know it. I guess chunks is more accurate. It's always boneless, right?

I need bones in my chicken. There are few things worse than boneless "buffalo wings."
besides taste, I need bones b/c I need to know that it's real meat--or at least, it's what is supposed to be. Whenever it's something that is boneless, it's usually pressed rib meat and other bits of tossaway meat pressed into some particular shape.

the Korean chunks I've had have always been quality breast meat, but I still need bones!

No, KFC has bones. You're right the pieces are more chunks. They take a whole chicken and chop it up in pieces. But instead of cutting it like Western style here with breast, thigh, leg, and wings distinct, they chop the beast and thigh so you get dark and white meat together. You can order the chicken plain or drenched in various sauces. This might explain it better. http://www.nytimes.com/2007/02/07/dining/07fried.html
The country literally has at least one chicken place every block and all deliver til like midnight.

opened yesterday and here is the website: http://www.popeyeschicken.ca/

I have seen commercials for it but I don't know what it tastes like. Is it any good?

Seems a tad expensive here.

We used to have Church's Chicken and that was great.

So I will hope for the best and maybe give it a try next week.

OMG, you never had Popeyes before? Quick, go get some.

lol, wut?

you do know that there are different chicken breeds with different physical characteristics including size?

US chicken = no taste just big.

I once ordered grilled chicken breast at Hooters in Phoenix and when the dish came I had to ask the waitress if I got the right dish since it looks like turkey breast to me.

And it tasted awful. The chicken itself tasted like chemicals.

I'm on a diet, and I miss fried chicken
You're doing it wrong. With a low carb diet and creativity you can get some tasty chicken. Replace wheat flour with corn meal to push down the glycemic index and fry it in butter to avoid trans fats.

he's right, though. The standard US Purdue designed chicken is an absolute freak of nature. They have been selected for breast size and are fed hormones. by the time they are a few months old, they are some 75% or something larger than they should be. they can't walk. they just in their packed cages and writhe on the ground.

real chickens are quite small.

Depends on where the chicken are raised really. Back in Buenos Aires, the standard chicken is 2kg... and they tasted like real chicken, not the American crap.

I am guessing they were grain fed.

Haven't heard much about their catfish. I do like me some catfish prepared just about every way but haven't tried it at Popeyes.
