Biscuits are major win. The spicy chicken fingers are good...but at like $9 for a combo meal it's not *that* good.
Hey Craig!
They are located at the old Harveys at Southdale and Wellington.
I will probably hit them up next week.
No Popeye's within a hundred miles. I may have to pick up some Bojangles on my way home today.
I remember during Katrina, they were interviewing local residents about the destruction. A news station asked the lady "What are residents doing about the destruction of all the Churches? Interviewee's response was "Doesn't matter that much, most of us all gets our chicken at Popeye's anyway".
I did not mean to imply that Popeye's is superior to Bojangle's, but it is different. Bojangle's lacks the bite of Popeye's cajun spices, and dirty rice doesn't quite match up to red beans & rice.
nothing is 2nd tier to Bojangles...you should already know this.
You, sir, are amongst the elite: Not a Popeye's around to tarnish the fried chicken landscape so easily dominated by your local Bojangles.
1/4 white, fries, free sweet tea. fuck yes!

Also, while there may be no Popeye's to "tarnish the fried chicken landscape", there's a KFC a stone's throw away from my local Bo's... if that doesn't lower the culinary standard, I don't know what would.
Yes, KFC is much worse for sure. I feel sorry for you.
All of the Popeye's chicken that I have had, though, is completely bland and tasteless, tbh.
I've tried them in various regions of the country--as they are everywhere and one's fried chicken addiction easily gives in to desperation--and I haven't experienced a Popeye's franchise that is not filthy, poorly managed, with old, dry, bland chicken. So in my experience, Popeye's is consistently poor.
Now, I have also been to several Bojangle's, and is quite true that timing is everything. The heavenly fries can either be terribad or godly. The chicken is almost always moist and piping hot, though, and incredibly flavorful. I think I was spoiled with (what used to be, at least) the crown jewel of the franchise--the one on Western Blvd in Raleigh--constantly busy. Sometimes the tea can be overpowering, but it's usually quite good.
I've even found the occasional feather on my chicken at Bo, but that's all part of the charm in my eye.
And the dirty rice is a bit too "slimy" for my taste, but it's not bad. It's way better than Church's version, though. I do like Popeye's RB&R.
basically, I was raised on mostly Bojangle's and Chik Fil-A. I was spoiled, I guess, but nothing else comes close; though I have a special place in my heart for Church's. They mostly disappeared back home, but they are everywhere out here on the west coast. I have Church's and Popeye's both within less than a mile from me. I've been to Popeye's once, Church's maybe 6 or 7 times. Church's is almost always out of spicy chicken come dinner time. Plus, they seem more busy than Popeye's on a regular basis. :\
:thumbsup:Being well versed in southern cooking, I can tell you that the proper way to eat fried chicken is warm...not piping hot That's how they do it in the Louisiana's. They'll make batches of fried chicken, cover it with cloth, and people at at it all day.

Why do you hate flavor? Nothing tastes good coming out of a clean kitchen.
I would go to Church's chicken if I didn't fear for my life going there. It seems every Church's is located in really bad parts of town.
All the Popeyes near me are pretty clean, and I feel safe eating there. I also like the fried chicken at Pollo Campero. It's Latin flavor fried chicken but it tastes lot like fried chicken you find in Korea and other parts of Asia. The spices are very similar.
The chicken they use in the US are all giant mutant chicken. If you get fried chicken outside of the US, the pieces are lot smaller since the chickens are usually small natural chicken.
Piggly Wiggly has really good fried chicken. They also have fried chicken livers. Kroger fried chicken is inedible. Publix fried chicken is average but they usually have good combo deals with sides.

you do know that there are different chicken breeds with different physical characteristics including size?
hormones are illegal here.he's right, though. The standard US Purdue designed chicken is an absolute freak of nature. They have been selected for breast size and are fed hormones. by the time they are a few months old, they are some 75% or something larger than they should be. they can't walk. they just in their packed cages and writhe on the ground.
real chickens are quite small.
