Before this thread gets shut down for being a dupe I'd like to ask, would any of you religious nuts be swayed from your extremist positions if it were proved there was life on other planets?

I don't understand what you're trying to say.

My question was whether any religious extremists evangelical zealots would be less extreme if they found out there was life elsewhere in the galaxy. This thread is about ETs. I'm asking about the consequences for many of you troubled souls.

nothing you say can offend me because you mean nothing to me. You are just another angry dude with a keyboard. I for one would like to know if some other life form is out there, God help us if we are it.

It seems that the members that are perceived to be 'liberals' on this forum have been very angsty lately.

<- not a 'conservative'

I am angry? Where did you get that?

You're the one spouting off about how I mean nothing to you. Nice attempt to dehumanize me angry dude?

(That will be my last post on the subtopic of me being angry since it's off-topic).

hmmmmm

Just wanted to pop in and say I'm not surprised. My entire family had a close encounter in the mid 70's, way before the movie came out. I've known that we are not alone since I was 8 years old. I doubt seriously that they are going to bail us out of the mess we've made of things, though. I mean, think about it...would you?

Why would it? Do you think religious people believe God is a union member and only works on this planet or something?

Nick1985, are you recruiting for your [Troll] clan? You are the biggest one here so I can understand you feeling a little threatened when you perceive any challengers to the thrown. All is OK, you shall wear the crown until one bigger comes along. Infohawk is not even close to your superior trolling skills.

On topic, no we are not alone in the universe IMHO.

So what about Jesus? Or Mohammed? Did they move on to Alpha Centauri after visiting us? Also, it would challenge the god in our image idea that so many people disagree with. There's no question that spirituality could coexist with life on other planets. I just don't see how fundy doctrine (radical christian evengelicals, mullahs) could.

ive spoken to some religious folks that believe there cant be other life in the universe as a result of god.
and i am interested to know if that would change anyones view. though i highly doubt it. it would be interesting to hear if religious groups have any "official" stance on other life.

Jesus and Mohammed are prophets, and I don't see why prophecy would be limited to planet earth and just earthlings if God is omnipotent and omnipresent. As far as God making us in his image, I can't speak for the fundies but I believe that means that we have a soul, not that God looks human like George Burns or something.

What was the encounter like?

Well, my oldest sister was with her fiance about 2 miles from home. They were on a country road, trying to make curfew. Something with lights and diamond-shaped came silently out of the sky in front of them. According to both of them, it wasn't of this world and pretty much scared the sheet out of them. It started chasing them, and her fiance (who then became my brother in law, and is now my ex brother in law, but is still family to me) decided to drive as fast as he could to our house.

Well, right about the time this was happening to them, me and my other sister were upstairs in our bedroom, trying to go to sleep. All of a sudden, a light as bright as the sun filled our room. It was NOT natural. There was NO noise, NO movement, just unnatural, incredibly bright light. We instinctively did not move. I said, "What's that??" and she said, "I don't know" and then we heard the sound of tires squealing, doors slamming, and my other sister and her fiance slamming the door into the house. We stayed in our beds.

The next day, we found out that at the same time the strange light filled our room, our sister was being chased by a UFO. It was no prank. To this day, it is one of those things that we can just connect to each other with... even my ex brother in law knows that what happened that night was beyond this world, and he's like a born again Christian.

Even if people don't believe us, it doesn't matter, because it happened to us as a group, in very different contexts, so we know it wasn't our imagination.

The fact that you try to HIJACK my thread by asking your own questions and lets not forget the way you asked your question I will remind you "religious nuts". If that's not angry what is?
Just stop now please!

I don't know much about Mohammed but I thought Jesus was god himself? I thought he was more than a prophet under the CHristian orthodoxy.

That sounds a bit weaselish but it makes more sense than god looking like George Burns.

Given you are a highly active troll, and this one is pretty generic - I'm only giving you a 4/10. Here's your medal:

I've heard similar things and it seems more consistent with their views that there wouldn't be life elsewhere since Genesis makes no mention of "and then god made the vulcans and the species from alien and predator."

it would be interesting to hear if religious groups have any "official" stance on other life.

I know the Catholic hierarchy accepted evolution a while back so I'd imagine they'd be as progressive with Alf and his friends. Would they try to baptize him? That's another issue.
