an binary artillery shell containing Sarin Nerve gas was detonated today in Iraq in a terrorist attack on U.S. troops. Two G.I.'s were exposed and treated.

gee....i thought all you liberals claimed they didn't exist..

i already know what you're going to claim..

"they only found one?...that doesn't count.."

well, does any rational person believe they produced only one Sarin Gas artillery shell?

no WMD?

Ha.

Excellent, by invading Iraq we've enabled the terrorists to get their hands on the few WMD's that hadn't been destroyed!!!

FYI, nobody ever said they hadn't been produced, just that there weren't vast quantities of them anymore.

And when we it produced. If it was made after the chimp started his war it doesn't really count.

Also it isn't really a weapon of mass destruction if it only wounds two people.

You do realize you're making a mockery of yourself by trying to justify a war in Iraq killing hudreds of our own men and women and thousands of Iraqis for one (1) artillery shell containing Sarin Nerve gas which was allegedly found, right?

If you all agree that they were produced, then where did they all go? and when?

I think you need to change the thread title to WEAPON (yes, one) of Mass destruction found.
This really makes Bush look like brilliant now for sending our troops now, doesn't it.

So if i set off a Nuke in Alaska and it only kills (insert a number here) but doesn't get into the hundreds of thousands it isn't a WMD?

How many people does a bomb/gas/agent have to kill to be a WMD? I will answer for you, a weapon that has the potential to kill a large number of people is a WMD, it is not judged by how many it actually kills.

$20 we'll find this to have been brought in from outside of Iraq or to be some leftover shell that the U.S. supplied Saddam with 20 years ago.

I thought most of these chemicals breakdown over a period of time

(05-17) 07:45 PDT BAGHDAD, Iraq (AP) --

A roadside bomb containing sarin nerve agent exploded near a U.S. military convoy, the U.S. military said Monday. Two people were treated for "minor exposure," but no serious injuries were reported.

"The Iraqi Survey Group confirmed today that a 155-millimeter artillery round containing sarin nerve agent had been found," said Brig. Gen. Mark Kimmitt, the chief military spokesman in Iraq. "The round had been rigged as an IED (improvised explosive device) which was discovered by a U.S. force convoy.

"A detonation occurred before the IED could be rendered inoperable. This produced a very small dispersal of agent," he said.

The Iraqi Survey Group is a U.S. organization whose task was to search for weapons of mass destruction after the ouster of Saddam Hussein in last year's invasion.

"The round was an old binary-type requiring the mixing of two chemical components in separate sections of the cell before the deadly agent is produced," Kimmitt said. "The cell is designed to work after being fired from an artillery piece."

He said the dispersal of the nerve agent from a device such as the homemade bomb is "limited."

"The former regime had declared all such rounds destroyed before the 1991 Gulf War," Kimmitt said. "Two explosive ordinance team members were treated for minor exposure to nerve agent as a result of the partial detonation of the round."

In 1995, Japan's Aum Shinrikyo cult unleashed sarin gas in Tokyo's subways, killing 12 people and sickening thousands. In February of this year, Japanese courts convicted the cult's former leader, Shoko Asahara, and sentence him to be executed.

Developed in the mid-1930s by Nazi scientists, a single drop of sarin can cause quick, agonizing choking death. There are no known instances of the Nazis actually using the gas.

Nerve gases work by inhibiting key enzymes in the nervous system, blocking their transmission. Small exposures can be treated with antidotes, if administered quickly.

Antidotes to nerve gases similar to sarin are so effective that top poison gas researchers predict they eventually will cease to be a war threat.

Did the weapon have the potential to kill a large number of people and it was wasted, or was the weapon a crappy weapon and not a WMD.

For your example if some one dropped a nuke in Alaska and it only killed some one because it fell on their head and didn't go nuecler then I would have a hard time calling it a WMD when a rock would have caused just as much destruction.

A lot of them breakdown after a few years. I'm not sure about the shelf-life of Sarin though.

The technology might be old...but how old were the chemicals? and where did they come from?

But I thought all the insurgent terrorists had all come from outside countries and weren't Iraqis anyway, and they were being supported by countries like Iran with weapons and money? At least that's what the government has been trying to tell me. Therefore, the gas would have to come from one of these supporting countries not Iraq right? If the administration is going to tell me one thing they'd better stick with it.

So apparently, this device can be called an uncoventional weapon at best, and to grasp at straws to label it a weapon of mass destruction (notice the singular form) would really make yourself out to look like a clown.

Funny it only took four (4) planes to kill 3000+ people. But thats another topic.

..............But Hardly a threat to US.

Although it still seems to be a mystery where all the WMD went, I wonder if he was bluffing all along. (except for those he actually used of course)
