For reasons I'll never understand, chrome doesn't work right here on AT (viewed posts never update). I just tried firefox again, but it takes 45 seconds to load, which is why I dumped it months back and went to chrome.
Which is the least buggy browser out there? I'd like something that works right most of the time, for most sites. Is that an impossible dream?

Firefox loads slow before getting here, so it's out.
Posts and viewed threads not updating has been going on for months. It generally works for a few hours after the Saturday night maintenance, but it's just getting old, so the easy answer is to dump chrome. I'm using opra right now, it starts quick enough, we'll see if it works here or not.

Delete you profile and Firefox will work like new. Literally like new. Firefox loads faster than chrome on all of my machines, without exception, and on the non-SSD ones, it's quite noticeable. It's obvious your Firefox profile has something seriously wrong with it, which is also a sign that something is very wrong with your PC in general, software-wise.

You know, having your PC full of crapware and stuff...

If you open a browser with many plugins, then it will take time to load up.
If any plugins are causing a issue can end up to problems.

Five seconds is a problem. A simple forum with scripts and ads blocked should load almost instantly. Certainly within two seconds. This place stutters and hangs more often than it doesn't.

If you want the speed of Chrome, and the interface / add-ons of Firefox, you can simply switch to Pale Moon, that is Firefox on steroids, super fast, makes use of multi core CPUs, and has the retro Firefox look. once you use Pale Moon, you'll never go back to FF

How do you know? Did you check the AppData folder?

Also, new profiles may still be severely screwed up by plugins you may already have installed in your computer. New profiles are no assurance of "clean".

All the more reason to avoid FF.
It obviously has some compatibility issues with something else on my computer. I'm not going to spend hours figuring it out, as there are other browsers available. I don't care whose software I use, I just want it to work without any fuss.

My Pale Moon loads in under a nanosecond. And, since switching to it from FX, never once had a problem with it.

I will never run FX again.

And, since I am shallow, that you can make it compatible with Lavafox red using a special little add on, is huge.

I don't know where you're coming up with this foolishness, or why you even care. I simply asked for suggestions, your's didn't work.
I don't know why FF loads so slowly on my machine, but it's not important enough to devote any time into correcting it. Since everything else runs flawlessly, and I have no "crap" that you're so concerned about, the simplest solution is to can the one piece of software thats having a problem, and use one of several other free alternatives that work every bit as well.
Since my questions seem to annoy you, please don't respond. Add me to your ignore list and we'll both be happy. It's a win win deal.

Here's something: I don't believe you.

You either don't know what a profile is, or you don't know what a plugin is. And that's nothing to be ashamed of, it's normal for people not to know that stuff. What's not normal is to assume you do and assume everyone else is wrong.

You obviously don't understand how software works, particularly web browsers. Software doesn't simply "have problems", not when it works perfectly for millions of people all around the world.

Software does have problems when it's not used in a way that it's not prepared to be used, and in the case of web browsers, that can happen when you, for example, have multiple instances of java installed on your computer, or have a buggy extension, or an incompatible plugin, or your antivirus is blocking the browser, or your registry is all wonky... Loads of stuff can and does happen, but it usually means the host computer is not well maintained, pure and simple.

It may well be that your computer is well maintained and everything is as it should, but I don't believe it. Because if that WERE case, Firefox would have to be having trouble with your hardware and/or its drivers, and unless you have some really obscure CPU or some such, that's not a possibility, and frankly I've never seen that happen with any browser, let alone Firefox, which is cross-platform and everything.

So to close out my adventure in browsers, I ended up sticking with Opra. Loads quick enough, and after tweaking adblock a bit, threads and posts are properly updated on this site.

Running win 7.
I like chrome as well, but I just couldn't get it to work properly on this site. I thought it was adblock causing the problem, but disabling it didn't help at all.
I'm also running FF on a Linux box I set up for my in-laws, it's never had a hiccup. The whole system has been trouble free since the day I started it up.

I think you have the wrong attitude here; people are just trying to help and you're coming across as if you're too impatient to try and find what might potentially be the real problem (something many here suspect might be the case, not just one) and would rather just have a band-aid fix for what sounds like internal bleeding. All the while you are being very ungrateful towards people who are not just trying to help solve the problem now, but to solve it in a manner that prevents this problem (and potentially other problems) from happening again in the future.

I also have noticed slowness on this forum on several different machines in different locations, so maybe it's the database on here or something?
