Hey Guys,

I have a major problem. I signed up with a host, he set up my account and I uploaded a customized script that I bought and then had customized (so it was unique). Well, tonight all my logs were deleted and I was locked out of my stats directory. BUT I had also been using an external statistics service. When I checked the logs there I found referral links coming in from portions of my script located on the host owner's server. He STOLE my script and who knows what else?! passwords, etc? He now has it running as his own competing service!

That's pretty hard to prove. What are you using, extreme tracking?

You can't steal passwords... normally. I'm running a web host and I can CHANGE a password but I can't view the person's current pw.

How do you know the person has it running now? More link is needed.

use whatever you have against him and try to make a case -- yes, sue him. if you can prove theft, intellectual property theft is just as good as anything.

If you paid him in a way that has a traceable record, threaten to bring legal action on him.

Isnt the host owner's server the same as your server? You are leasing space on his server, no?

Well, according to when I signed up, he said he was renting an entire rack, and I was added to a new server, so it's always possible that it's on the same machine. Regardless, he's running the script with my exact modifications - just replaced my info with his. - but a unique URL (that's NOT mine).

Hosts can have several servers....

I'm really curious to find out who this host is

I would definitely research your web host in the future by searching WHT.

but I did research it in advance! nothing negative about him that I could find.

Been there. Done that. Have the T-shirt.

As Ross suggests, visit WHT. For a good laugh, look up Eryxma/Glexicon (who robbed thousands).

Sorry to hear about your situation. If you have no legal recourse, violence always works wonders.........

Have you contacted the host to see why you were locked out? It could just be a misunderstanding/techno-glitch. If he has locked you out and stolen your script, start spreading the news. It won't take long before word gets around.

Please post the host and someone here might have information to help you. And at the very least, people can stop using that host.
