1) The owner
I?ve been in touch with AgaBoogaBoo on the AT forums for a couple months now and he?s always talking about reliability and uptime. Since then he?s been planning to start a web hosting company. A little while ago he finally told me that he?s starting it.

2) More Information
a) Server Specs
Dual Xeon 2.8GHz CPU?s, 1-2GB ECC RAM, and dual hard drives. He keeps incremental backups for all his servers.

b) Network Information
I could explain all this myself, but you can just go to his website, www.cernax.com, and take a look yourself

3) Plans
I?ve been keeping an eye on his plans and realized he has some deals posted because his hosting venture is getting started. Here are his two cheapest plans directly from www.cernax.com:

Standard
250 MB Space
2500 MB Bandwidth per Month (2.5GB)
5 POP3 E-mail Accounts
Unlimited Email forwarders/autoresponders
CGI-BIN (Perl) support
PHP4 support
5 MySQL databases
1 Subdomain
$9.95/year

Expanded
500 MB Space
5000 MB Bandwidth per Month (5.0GB)
10 POP3 E-mail Accounts
Unlimited Email forwarders/autoresponders
CGI-BIN (Perl) support
PHP4 support
10 MySQL databases
3 Subdomains
$7.95/quarter

Those are the two cheapest plans he has, but there are more too. Both of those mentioned a 10 day money back guarantee and 99.5% uptime on the site as well

4) Domains
If you need a domain, I recommend www.namecheap.com or www.godaddy.com. Namecheap is running a deal on .info domain names, they're only $2.88 and all their domains include WhoisGuard. $2.88 plus a yearly account of hosting is more than enough for galleries/e-mail/upload scripts/etc. This past christmas I gave some friends a website with a gallery and e-mail, made a great present and didn't even cost $20.

Also, after speaking with him, he told me he will be employing a 24/7 support group in the near future.

Most companies have rules against this because the company they buy their space from won't allow it.

I gave it a shot today since I've been meaning to do something for fun, hopefully I find the time to work on it.
Very quick and easy, I already had a domain with godaddy so the name servers will just take a day or so to propogate. I've had some experiance with phpnuke and phpbb and mysqladmin, and got it all up and going rather easily

Actually propagation should only take a few hours, possibly sooner.

Looks like I was wrong, it has finished. I think the last time I put up a site it *did* take a day or so...a long time ago.

unless things improved, it normally takes 2 days to have all major domain servers to be updated.
of course, you can manually change your domain servers to point to your domain registery... for instant an update.

Thaings changed

It takes between 5 minutes to 5 hours, but shouldn't ever be longer than that.

Well, I just finished setting mine up. He's helped me through every step of the way and has been very prompt. I'd recommend this service to anyone.

A domain is required because of how things are setup, but keep in mind that .info domains are only $2.88 at namecheap.com

For now I'm milking the free 1and1 hosting for all it's worth, but I'll certainly look into this once it expires.

nice deal, but a graphic heavy site can easily use up that bandwidth. be careful about image optimization if you use this deal or your visitors will get the dreaded "bandwidth exceeded" page.

They do give out nice freebie accounts, but my only complaint is how they have things setup. Since they do this on such a large scale, their support just isn't to my liking and their control panel isn't something I like either.

From what I've seen, 2.5GB is more than enough for personal websites and other sites. Unless the website has a large forum or hosts large files, this shouldn't be an issue for most people. Also, Cernax monitors usage so if we feel a user is going to run out of bandwidth, we'll contact them and let them know

Well, I have everything set up with Cernax now. This deal is GREAT. I just switched from Ripplehost (aka Hell) to Cernax, and couldn't be happier. I was a n00b and thought it would be hard to switch hosts, but all you have to do is log into your domain registrar's website (I use godaddy.com), and updated the nameservers to the Cernax nameservers once you have an account.

Easy as pie! Thanks AgaBoogaBoo! Looking forward to many years of webhosting bliss
