Web Hosting and Website CMS

So...

Let's say you are looking to build a general site, more of a resume and general conversation about a specific specialty... you already own the domain name.

what CMS, what web host.

Needs to be responsive, easy to maintain, good at google ranking, and a place to showcase not just my resume but also general conversation topics about the area i specialize in.

where do you turn?

I'd probably just use cPanel, unless there has been some phenomenal change in the last 5 years I'm not aware of?

What is your actual budget (not a range but a firm number) that you can afford today? Please specify monthly or annual?

How much disk space and bandwidth do you estimate you will need?

Do you have any special preference of OS (Linux, Windows, etc.), control panel (DirectAdmin, cPanel, Plesk, etc.), phone support or anything else?

not worried about support Ross; Outside of down time, I have no reason to call them.

I have not used Plesk, and DirectAdmin was rare when I last did this. cPanel is known.

At basic, I'd be interested in like a 1/10gb traffic plan, but I could easily spend $10-$30 a month on the host.

I don't really go much past the control panel so OS doesn't really bother me, but back when it was always linux.

Search WHT's shared hosting offers forum but the trick is finding one that won't be out of business in 6 months or has terrible uptime/support.

After you find a few hosts you're interested in search for reviews.

StableHost.com has a great offer and is a reputable host.

I would also consider a resellers account which allows you to host multiple domains, you don't have to "resell" anything. To start out you can host one domain then later one, host other projects, friends, family or just own your domains. I have recommended a resellers hosting account to several people here and they all love the flexibility.

I will look into StableHost. I don't have plans to do multiple domains; I'm well beyond that stage, back when i was 14 i looked into that (14 years ago).

It's an awesome website which lists dozens of CMS's and includes live demo's.

I've had Stablehost for a couple of years and their customer service has been great.
