What software is used to design the home page of a nice site like Anandtech.com? Can anyone recommend shareware or freeware that could help me with roll-over menus like that found on Anandtech.com? (Roll your mouse over "Community" for example, and it changes color.)

for newbies like u (kidding)

what u need is a program that does WYSWYG (What you See is What you Get)

try MS Frontpage or Macromedia Dreamweaver

Check out my webpage that I made with Frontpage 2000

The 2nd: What Are You Passionate About?

also done with some experienced skill with Adobe Photoshop.. everything u see there is made by me 100%

If you want to slap together a prebuilt database site, all that stuff is no problem. To do a custom page like Anandtech is alot more work. To do a basic html page with some nice effects is fairly simple. As far as the effect on the front page, I'm not sure how you would do that in normal html, and that's about all I really know....

when I was a web designer I used Homesite mainly and sometimes Dreamweaver. Stayed away from wysiwyg editors because of lack of total control. This was back in the html 2.0 to 3.2 days. However, if you're into the wysiwyg both programs off it as an option.

Urrghh...I use Notepad a lot. Actually, I sometimes start out with a WYSIWYG, and tweak things with Notepad. I have the feeling I'm cheating, though. As you can see, I have java script-based buttons that change with a mouse rollover. I design those buttons in PhotoShop. What do professional sites like Anandtech.com use to implement such buttons?

<< Adobe Dreamweaver >>

haha

<< Dreamweaver is on the Christmas Wish List! >>

you do know there's a fully functional trial version right? and then that site that will remain unnamed. all i will say is that it rhymes with one of arnold's trademark sayings.

I read you loud and clear, Kami.

So I assume that Dreamweaver does those nifty rollover menu buttons? I mean, my method doesn't suck completely, but I know there is a better way.

Again, here's my web site.

I'm surprised that "site" isn't widely known.. It's been around for a while now. Just be careful of all the pop-ups from some of the linked pages.

I have no idea the site you speak of. The one I'm thinking of doesn't rhyme with anything Arnold, it's more like a muppet.

Ok, ok...I'm sure this thread will get locked if you mention the actual site! Yes, I know what it is.

I laugh when people say this. There's not a professional programmer/designer on the planet who uses this as their tool of choice, and for good reason.
