Ok so i see their stupid commercials on the tube all the time so i figured i would check them out. As soon as i hit the pricing, i'm like WTF? Who pays 200+ for a charcoal grill?!? Is there really that much of difference between the 50 walmart or 75 Char-Broil grill and the webber? On top of that, they are small! I paid 120 for my char-broil propane grill. A propane from webber that is about the same size is well over 300??? what is the deal? Someone please tell me how these people make money. Is there really THAT much of a difference in grill design? O_O I must be a total outdoor grilling newb.

all i can think off is the weber grills have replacement parts for every little thing so you don't have to get a new one

also the burners are hidden below some metal things that keep fat and juices from falling aand damaging the burners..ad adds a lot of of life to the grill...the other thing that varies is the temperaure the thing can reach..weber grills go up to 500 dgrees or something

Yeah, my friends and I had a discussion about them. How hard is it to make a hemisphere out of steel, put a grate in it, slap 3 legs on it, and then make a lid. Not only that, but with something as simple as that, how would it not be able to last forever?

Perhaps it something so deceptively simple that its difficult for most companies to get it right. Then again, it doesn't seem like too many try all that hard to do it.

I just bought the $90.00 Weber "charcoal grill" from Lowe's. No need for anything bigger unless you plan on mimicking those dumb-azz propane cable shows or to show off for your neighbor.
Buy what you need and no more. Unless you have 10 kids or have family/friends over frequently.

Weber+Kingsford charcoal soaked for 2min w/any lighter fluid..........= the better Barbie

Some bastard stole my little weber grill!

Replaced it with cheapo no-name brand and it's rusting already.

i haven't owned any other grill but the 2 webers i have performed flawlessly. The parts are quality constructed. The ignitor fires up the grill everytime. I did bring home one propane grill from costco, but after taking a look at the grates, i promptly returned it.

It's because of the quality.

I bought a $150 propane grill when we got a house. After three years, I had put $70 worth of parts in it. Then we got a Weber propane grill, and after six years, no parts needed replacing.

If you want a gas grill that's quick to start, has replaceable parts, runs hotter and more evenly than most others and lasts 10 years (or more), you can't really go wrong with a lowend Weber. I had some cheapo $150 gas grill a few years back that started rusting two years after I bought it and stopped working all together after three. I bought a Weber on the recommendation of neighbors and friends (most of whom have had their Webers for at least 3-5 years and in one case, over 10 years, though he did have to order some replacement parts and install them at some point.

EDIT: Ugh, I read my post and it sounds like a Weber ad. I can't complain though. My Weber is entering its second season and is still in great shape. Of course, I've only used it a half dozen times and didn't even finish a tank last year (traded my tank in last month, probably with a little still in it, but I didn't want to run out in the middle of grilling for guests).

I haven't tested out the Weber grills in maybe 10 years, but I have noticed that few grills these days have quality lids...the gas grills that are huge feel like their lids have been stamped out of cheap sheet metal. I want a grill that is heavy and feels like it doesn't flex when you open it.

As for the gas, they've been using a heat deflector shield that keeps juices and sauces from gumming up the grill....but it also promotes more even heat and reduces the need for lava rock (they may not need any). If you buy a grill, make sure it has this...most do these days. I still have a lava rock gas grill and it does the job, but my next grill purchase will probably be something of quality. (the current grill was a hand-me-down from my neighbor)

I received mine as a gift, it's an 18" charcoal grill, fairly basic, however it's been several years out in the Washington rain and it hasn't rusted. The finish is superior to the other BBQ's I've owned.

The classic Weber grills DO cook very well and let you cook large things. They also do an indirect cooking method better than anything else that I've seen. And they only cost about $60-80.

My dad has a Webber grill thats ~20 years old. The thing is still in great shape and cooks wonderfully. Thats why they're more expensive.

Then you don't know how to take care of your grill or you purchased a cheap POS. I've got a Char-Broil grill that I paid around $250 about 5 years ago and I've never had to do a single thing to it. Just use it, clean it and cover it. It's that simple.

I never understood Weber either. Not that they are bad, but they are expensive for what you appear to get.

I love my Weber gas grill and my Weber bullet.

Someday I want to get a charcoal grill to accompany it.

It was a cheap POS, no doubt about that. Glad you have had good luck with the Char-Broil.
