dathorn.com

Demand has been building for several weeks while signups have been frozen: webster wanna-be's.

Edited 4/15 to reflect another sellout
5/16 upon re-offering.
5/20 for temporary OOS

5/20 - The order forms are currently offline for a short while as we are setting them up for another server. They will be back online by the end of the day.

This is definitely not SPAM.

Several Anandtechers including myself have a dathorn.com resellers account and they are IMHO THE BEST bang for your buck webhosting reseller.

If you want an individual hosting account, nothing beats AddAction.net $9.95 for 6 months, $6.95/mo thereafter ... if you refer 10 new customers your webhosting is FREE FOR LIFE! (which mine is).

If anyone has any questions about dathorn or addaction please don't hesitate to PM, or IM me (AIM MelloRoss MSN ross_the_enigma@hotmail.com).

Looks like they are a reseller of rackshack.net according to the traceroutes. At least rackshack isn't using cogent bw anymore so it seems like a solid deal.

Vampirrella - They just brought online a new server and it's already 1/2 full, so I guess the "catch" is once this server is full they will no longer be accepting new orders until the next new server is ready (weeks of waiting).

Server specs can be found towards the end of this thread
P4 2.4Ghz
1.5GB RAM
8MB Cache 7,200 RPM IDE Drives including a secondary one for daily backups.

Ben50 - That's interesting because I think the servers are located at the highly rated ThePlanet.com

I would not personally vouch for dathorn.com unless I know that it's legit, solid, reliable, and most importantly a Hot Deal. It is ALL of those and more. I am 100% serious the $13.50/mo 2GB/30GB is a super hot deal.

You get access to WHM which is where you main all your domains you have hosted. You do not have to resell webhosting, as long as you pay your $13.50/mo bill you can do whatever you want with your hosting. If your parents or friends want hosting, you can create a hosting account for them in 2 seconds using WHM. Every domain has it's own cPanel control panel where you maintain databases, email, webmail, FTP, bandwidth monitoring, webstats, etc.

Here is what $13.50/mo gets you specifically:
Disk Space 2GB
Bandwidth 30GB
Domains & Subdomains unlimited
MySQL Databases unlimited
Mail & FTP Users unlimited
Dedicated Static IP Address* yes
Domain Aliases unlimited
E-Mail Aliases unlimited
E-Mail Auto-Responders unlimited
Spam Assassin yes
Webmail yes
Anonymous FTP yes
Analog Web/FTP Log Analyzer yes
Web Access & Error Logs yes
Password Protected Directories yes
Perl 5.6.1 / PHP 4.2.3 yes
MySQL yes

Sendmail Support yes
FrontPage 2002 Support yes
SSH Secure Shell yes
POP3 / IMAP / SMTP Server yes
File Manager yes
cPanel/WHM 6.2 yes
Custom DNS Servers yes
Reseller Capable yes
Dallas, TX Datacenter & Daily Backups yes
Setup Fee $0
Monthly Price $13.50

If any of you would like to test out an account I would be more than happy to create an account for you to test 1 day. Please go to your domain registrar's website and update your DNS name servers to:
ns1.hostingmyway.com
ns2.hostingmyway.com

Then PM me and we'll talk.

If you're STILL unsure go to WebHostingTalk.com and SEARCH for dathorn the comments speak for themselves.

Since it wasn't posted at the other hyperactive Hot Deal forum, ATechies had first dibs for a few hours before the FWsters had a chance to suck up all the available bandwidth. At least on that server.

More accounts should be available on Wednesday or so depending on when the server is available. (3/29 post @ 1845)

Read all about the webster wanna-be's that missed out who are already lining up for Wednesday's bum rush.

i got in on the manlius 2GB/20GB/$20 a year plan and have been very happy with them. lots of people don't like them due to a few unfortunate incidents regarding server downtime, but i just use my domain for email at the moment, so not a big deal for me. I know they are moving out of rackshack due to recent attacks (which caused some downtime)... some place in Texas, so I'm assuming ThePlanet. Once the move takes place, I'm hoping to get my site up and running. Right now they aren't taking new orders, but when they get their new billing system up, i suggest you give them a try (especially after they make the move to TX).

As for reseller accounts, I don't know about manlius, but this dathorn deal sounds pretty sweet. Good luck to all those who get in on this deal!

Cool I'm glad that you got in just in the nick of time.

Don't forget to contact your domain registrar and register your own personalized name servers.

Thank RossMAN, who found dathorn as well as some earlier no-brainers which were executable a lot longer than this one.

I do hope you do not take offense to this, but manilus.com is a nothing more than reseller. The original host is Eryxma, who is a subsidiary of Odisee in one form or another. Yes, they are based in Texas. I am sure he/she/it is a value added reseller, but a reseller nonetheless. Have run into one (or the only) staff member of manilus.com in the Eryxma forum from time to time. You may want to read the forums there as it is a direct source of information, and is kept up very well by the CEO himself (you'll find him there as Shiekron). As an Eryxma customer myself, I can attest to their superior customer service and low prices (much lower than appear on the website now, as they have grown and been able to charge more, even though my particular reseller yearly price remains the same) and highly recommend them.

Hope this does not burst any bubbles. Just thought I would pass along some first hand knowledge.

At RossMAN's suggestion I signed up for the $20/mo. plan @ Dathorn.

Best. Webhost. Evar.

Dathorn seems to have an excellent reliability record, which seems to be fortified by the fact that they will refuse to take more customers than they can handle -- a very very commendable gesture.

Custom nameservers (i.e. ns1.yourdomain.com) is one of the many perks. You could spend hours playing with the WHM and cPanel configs, SSH telnet access, and two-click forum setup.

My favorite perk is the unlimited -- and INSTANT -- subdomain management. I don't even have to remember the ports/URLs for cPanel and webmail. Just rerouted webmail.mydomain.com and cpanel.mydomain.com to the appropriate locations.

Anyone who gives Dathorn a try won't be sorry. I see this as a marginally bigger investment than previous deals -- i.e. Dixiesys and *shudder* CW but it pays off in the long run. Hell, just charge a few friends/neighbors/aquaintances for webhosting and you can ride off the profit.

I totally agree.

I love the personalized name servers, gives you a real professional image and it appears to people that you have your own servers and/or data center

Speaking of webmail, that's what I do. If my domain is Rossmantech.com I would do a redirect and be able to check my webmail from http://webmail.rossmantech.com a very easy to remember URL.

Considering their lowest plan is only $13.50, just charge 3 people you know $5/mo for basic 250MB/3GB plans and that still leaves you with 1250MB/21GB for your own and your webhosting is FREE since you're charging people $5 x 3 = $15 - $13.50 =

Or you don't even have to resell your webspace, the point of a resellers account is to have total absolute control over everything with your WHM.WHM and cPanel.

Excellent... this seems like a great deal for a non-profit that I'm helping out. They might need 60GB bandwidth but even still, very good price. Excellent!

I just got in on this, how long does it take for them to send the login info after you complete the billing process?

Should be pretty quick, depending on if Andrew is awake or not (he doesn't sleep).

After you get your account info contact me via AIM or MSN.

PM me.
