Lion country safari
Lion country safari is way to far.
I used to live in Ft. Lauderdale a few years ago.
What are you into?
There's the Ft. Lauderdale "strip" that's along A1A that has a bunch of bars and places to eat and going clubbing/dancing.
There's Las Olas, which is in the downtown part of Ft. Lauderdale and is just filled with bars and clubs, also some good places to eat, a IMAX theater that's in the Discovery Science museum and a regular movie theater as well. The whole place is along the intercostal also.
Miami is not far at all from there.
You could hit up south beach if you're into the club/bar scene.
If you head west on 595 and take Flamingo north (right) you'll hit the Sawgrass Mills mall, which is a huge mall that's said to be over a mile long, but around the mall they have an area called the Oasis that is a large movie theater, lots of shops, bars, restaurants, etc...
Key West is about a 4 hour drive straight south until you can't go anymore but if you wanted a taste of the Keys, Key Largo is only about 1.5 to 2 hours south.
Again, if you give an idea of what you're into I can probably give you a lot more ideas.
If you're looking for a bit less touristy beaches in the area, Dania Beach is the place to go. it's not nearly as packed as the Ft. Lauderdale beach and a lot more natural feeling. That's off of 95 and Sheridan, just take Sheridan south until you hit A1A, then hang a left and all along the right are small roads that are for parking that leads to the beach there.
Don't be put off by the appearance of Sheridan as soon as you get off the highway though, it's much nicer once you get to the beach.
