Suggestions? Tips?

- Let's get the obligatory "have sex all day" and "go to the beach stupid" posts out of the way early

SawGrass Mall! It's in the shape of an alligator and it's HUGE! Kinda cool to check out.

Also... Boomers. Boomers has two buildings, each the size of a Walmart, full of video/arcade games. There's a full bar in one of the buildings and a restaurant in the other. I haven't been in MANY years, but from what I remember (although this may have changed), they had (in addition to the video games) these attractions: a wooden roller coaster, dirt-buggy gokarts that could actually get air, a Sky-Coaster (takes balls to ride), fast gokarts where BUMPING IS ALLOWED, some faire-style thrill rides, and one huge gokart track for all ages. They also had a virtual "make-your-own" roller coaster somewhere.

Fun on the cheap: beach.

I haven't been to Ft. Lauderdale in many years, so I can't remember much more than this... Hope it helps!

You can also check out Aventura Mall And The Waterways ( Nice outside place to walk around its not that big though then have dinner or eat then chill whichever.

There is also a really up scale mall called Bal Harbor Shops(you have to pay for parking), you can also check around that area.

Fort Lauderdale beach is a decent beach with several places for drinks. A1A north of las olas blvd south of sunrise blvd basically. also down town las olas has a lot of nice places too. otherwise, in general, theres a ton of places to eat and a ton of events going on regularly if you look into it im sure.

someone mentioned sawgrass which is out west. sawgrass is really big and has several parts. the actual mall, the oasis which is a lower end outdoor mall part with a movie theater, and then a 'nice' outdoor mall with a couple nice restaurants (on the south side) - collonade outlets or something.

if you venture south thers miami which opens a whole other ball game, south of sawgrass (i75 to pines blvd east i think) you got another nice new outdoor shopping area with nice restuarants too - i forget the name.

Lion country safari is way to far.

I used to live in Ft. Lauderdale a few years ago.

What are you into?

There's the Ft. Lauderdale "strip" that's along A1A that has a bunch of bars and places to eat and going clubbing/dancing.

There's Las Olas, which is in the downtown part of Ft. Lauderdale and is just filled with bars and clubs, also some good places to eat, a IMAX theater that's in the Discovery Science museum and a regular movie theater as well. The whole place is along the intercostal also.

Miami is not far at all from there.

You could hit up south beach if you're into the club/bar scene.

If you head west on 595 and take Flamingo north (right) you'll hit the Sawgrass Mills mall, which is a huge mall that's said to be over a mile long, but around the mall they have an area called the Oasis that is a large movie theater, lots of shops, bars, restaurants, etc...

Key West is about a 4 hour drive straight south until you can't go anymore but if you wanted a taste of the Keys, Key Largo is only about 1.5 to 2 hours south.

Again, if you give an idea of what you're into I can probably give you a lot more ideas.

If you're looking for a bit less touristy beaches in the area, Dania Beach is the place to go. it's not nearly as packed as the Ft. Lauderdale beach and a lot more natural feeling. That's off of 95 and Sheridan, just take Sheridan south until you hit A1A, then hang a left and all along the right are small roads that are for parking that leads to the beach there.

Don't be put off by the appearance of Sheridan as soon as you get off the highway though, it's much nicer once you get to the beach.

She: would sit at the beach every day all day
Me: would need some sort of activity to break up the monotony

Us: a happy medium between beaches during the day and dinners/drinks at night

Please keep your recommendations within the Ft Laud area. We do not have to drive 4 hours to visit some club on south beach

My first two recommendations are 20-30 min drive. the 3rd has some city driving involved to get too. But its near Aventura.

South Beach isn't too far of a drive 30-40 minutes. Espanola Way or Ocean Drive is nice for dinner and drinks. You could also go to the Hard Rock Casino in Hollywood, gambling if that's your thing or you can go to the bars and clubs. BeachPlace right on A1A in Ft. Laud is fun as well, Lulu's Baitshack and Fat Tuesdays. Las Olas is a great place to go also, check the website for America's Backyard and see if anyone you want to see is playing while you are in town.
