So i decided i might want to take a long drive to Las Vegas next week and was looking at the hotel fares on vegas.com. YIKES. Between $200-500 on Friday and Saturday nights for most of the hotels on the Strip. And even the smaller motels are charging steeply. Guess i might just have to take my long drive to another destination. I really didn't want to have to pay more than $150 per night for a nice hotel.

I know people who have spent a weekend in vegas without even getting a hotel room.

Look at Expedia/those kinds of sites...normally you can find something a lil bit cheaper. Even the "crappy" hotels on the strip shouldn't be that bad.

The problem is your looking at Fri and Sat nights. tThose nights are always way higher in Vegas.

You should be able to get a room at one of the cheaper, but still-decent places (like the Stratosphere) for way less than that. If you want something the caliber of the Bellagio or the Wynn, expect to pay for it.

Week-ends are always much more expensive.

Check out the Stations casinos or Boyd/Coast.

They are not as fancy as the strip, but you can save money (you already have a car).

Also, look at downtown vs the strip.

Yea, its odd. I grew up in Reon ... er Reno and when i was younger rooms in the best places were around $70. Incentive for tourism i suppose. But now its the same thing in reno as what youre seeing for vegas, nothing less than $200. Makes me wonder what happened. On the upside, there are still plenty of places to eat *cheap* and drink for free. Im sure you know the routine for free drinks.

One time I tried booking a room in Vegas and couldn't even find a room at motel 6. I asked why and they said they had a big convention, Holyfield fight, and Nascar race that weekend and the entire city was booked. Motel 6 was all sold out even after jacking their prices up to $150 a night.

Hey, I would suggest you try priceline.com. I recently went to vegas and stayed wednesday - saturday and my average room rate was 135 dollars at the Venetian.

You should also check the websites of the hotels you want to stay at to see if they have any promo deals as well.

We stayed at the Best Western about a mile from the strip and it was only like $45. This was in March four or five years ago, on a Thursday or Friday night.

When I go to Vegas I tell a white lie and call up the hotel and tell them I'm there on business (which I'm obviously not) and ask for the business rate. Most of the time I get the discounted business rate without having to verify who I am working for. Figured I'd share that tip.

The Stratosphere is booked for the weekend i want (Oct 4-7).

Looks like the Palace Station is one of the more reasonable offerings with an average weekend rate of $147/night.

There are also the stateline (Nevada/Cali) hotels at very very reasonable prices, around $50/weekend night

Circus Circus sometimes can have cheap rates...or station casinos. Thankfully I live here so don't have to pay for that

135 a night at Southpoint. Not sure if that would be a place you would want.

The beautiful South point hotel and casino is adjacent to I-15 and acts AS a gateway to Las Vegas. The hotel-casino has mediterranean style decor with a splash of california and offers oversized guest rooms with plasma tvs and high speed and wireless internet access. The property features a beautifully landscaped pool and jacuzzi with an outdoor activity area AS well AS a state of the art fitness center with all the latest IN elliptical equipment that is adjacent to the world class- spa costa del sur. South point has- IN addition to its multitude of amenities- an impressive equestrian and event center and over 150000 square feet of convention and exhibit space.

Have you checked out Imperial Palace? They were the cheapest place I could find on the new strip when the g/f and I went last summer.

I'm actually going there the weekend of October 5-7th as well. What's the absolute dirt-cheapest way to get a place on or right near the strip? Like seriously, if anyone knows of a relatively good carboard box I'll stay there.
