We stayed at the Best Western about a mile from the strip and it was only like $45. This was in March four or five years ago, on a Thursday or Friday night.

So i decided i might want to take a long drive to Las Vegas next week and was looking at the hotel fares on vegas.com. YIKES. Between $200-500 on Friday and Saturday nights for most of the hotels on the Strip. And even the smaller motels are charging steeply. Guess i might just have to take my long drive to another destination. I really didn't want to have to pay more than $150 per night for a nice hotel.

I'm actually going there the weekend of October 5-7th as well. What's the absolute dirt-cheapest way to get a place on or right near the strip? Like seriously, if anyone knows of a relatively good carboard box I'll stay there.

South Point is nice, but sorta far from the action. Palace Station is in the ghetto, far from everything, and the rooms are old and filthy. Primm (on the state line) is like 40 minutes away, but if you don't get wasted, could be a fun alternative to staying in Vegas. And beware of any place with "Suites" in the name, that's where all the freaky-deakies live.
P.S. the last week of October is dead here, you can get rooms at places like the Orleans for like 50 bucks.

That's exactly what I did. Stayed Sunday through Thursday at the Orleans...slept in the parking lot for a few hours...Round trip gas charge was only $400Cnd from Calgary, 24hr straight drive.
