best buy had that.

in my store they had 2 choices. some 5 color that was 32 or 40x and another set that was 48x. grabbed the 48x's.

Yeah, just check to make sure they do say "Made in Japan" on the label in the back to decipher the Taiyo Yuden's.

For reference, all FujiFilm CDRs are Made In Japan (Taiyo Yuden) as far as I know. Never ever ran across otherwise.

The Best Buy deal for $13 before rebates sounds good...
Don't like dealing with rebates, I just buy them when they're on sale...

FWIW, there have been a few scattered reports on this board that FujiFilm is starting to use Taiwan discs again. I've never seen them, but it's best to check before buying.

As for rebates, I always get the FujiFilm rebates in a timely manner.

I'll have to check my local store because the ones they show in the picture online are only rated to 16x! I'm sure it's just a file photo, but I thought it was rather humorous that they claim "up to 24x" in the text, show 16x in the picture, and actually provide 40x capable disks in the store.

I ordered the Sony 50 pack from Staples last night and they arrived this morning. They're pretty nice looking and marked at 40X. They're made by -- you guessed it -- Sony, and use the light colored phthalocyanine dye. Now that I have a fast burner I hate Taiyo Yuden disks. Most of the disks I own are rated 16X and almost all work perfectly at 40X except for a few cheap 4X disks. Not those lousy Taiyo Yudens though -- they burn at 16X exactly as advertised.:disgust:

You might have to force them to burn at 16X... PowerRec(?) and Smartburn are stupid and don't realize that TYs can burn to 48X without difficulty because it's reading the info off the CDR. TY are the best... barnone.

So... the Sonys are made in Japan? I'm gonna head out to my local Staples tomorrow morning and see if they're the crappy Taiwan disks or TY remarks. (Sony did use TY for quite a while as well)

The Sony's are made by Sony in Taiwan.
TY certainly has a following but the Fuji TY 16X I have are by far the worst disks I have ever used. I don't know if there's some sort of hack that will enable me to burn TY disks at higher speeds but I find that other brands of disks provide flawless performance without any hassle so I really don't care. I'll take my 16X Imation CMC Magnetics disks or these Sonys over any TY crap any day.

It's a simple matter of turning off Smartburn/Intelligent Speed Control/PowerRec in your burning program options. My burner came just before that wonderful "option" so I burn at whatever tha heck I want.
CMC makes an OK product, the failure rate isn't as high as some of the Riteks out there and not bad. The problem isn't with the TYs so much as it is your particular recorder... sometimes it cannot be turned off, in which case... SOL.

Coconuts usually has good deals on cdrs.. i got a 50 pack of maxell spindle.. it was like $20 with instant $10 and a $10 MIR .. I've done it before and recieved the rebate. Only need receipt, upc, and rebate form. The only person you have to pay is the government.

OK Turned off Smart Burn in Nero's "choose recorder" dialog and the TY 16X burned fine at 48X. Nero freaks out with warnings like nothing I've ever seen but it eventually concedes and burns away. Thanks Koko. I don't hate TY disks quite as much now.
