I was wondering if anyone knows anything about weighted clothing. Would I be able to use them regularly so I can be like picolo? Seriously though do you think they would be safe to use 24 hours a day like a permenant workout? I was thinking about buying some.

My friend wore the strap on ankle weights for a couple months. His footspeed much increased after that time period.

Like I mean weighted stuff on ure feet or ankles or a weighted vest. But something practical that you can use everyday and not look like a fool. Its coming to winter time so you can get away with a lot more. Is it safe? Any websites or companies?

I mean the allure of this is pretty obvious. You workout doing your daily activities. If your a programmer or just too lazy to go to the gym, this can definately help. Im not fat but I could definately use stronger legs. Someone must have some experience with these. Btw what lbs weights did ure friend have?

IIRC, putting weights on your ankles and wrists is bad for you because it strains and fscks up your joints, especially if you wear them all day. To verify, I'd ask my doctor before I did anything that added strain to my system for an extended period of time.

my friend recently bought a 40 pounds vest, which is a very good item to have while training for boxing.

I would imagine it is a great investment because any and every exercise (well,... ) you do is now a higher degree of difficulty, because of the added weight. It's like being 40 pounds heavier without the health concerns.

I'd imagine that you'd want to start with 10lbs and gradually work your way up to maybe 25% of your body weight... more than that and I think problems can start to occur...

fat people carry around a lot of extra weight, don't think wearing weighted clothing would be much worse for your joints than being pretty fat.

<----look at username

I tried it last winter for ice skating and I noticed a increase in speed and acceleration. I was wearing a 20lb chest vest and 10lbs thigh weights, 6lb hand weights, and 2lb wrist weights. I was also going to use ankle weights but with ice skates its kind of hard to do. When you do use weighted clothing you have to go slow and get use to it first.

The first weights I used were the thigh weights. It took me about 2 weeks to get use to that weight. Then I add the hand weights and wrist weights at the same time. At first the extra 14lbs didn't feel like nothing but after 5 laps my GOD, I could not even lift my hands.

Getting use to the 20lb vest was just a bitch. I could barley do a lap at full speed. Half way through the lap I got dog tired. But after a month I could get 2.5 laps at full speed. The sad thing about it though was I was still not the fastest person on the ice.

He's @ 160 at the moment. 40 seems like a lot to start out with, but knowing my friend, he's no chump and is willing to suffer through the adjusting to get the results he wants.

But yeah, for newbs i'd say go with a smaller size.

From teh Google.

There are more links that also state weights on ankles/wrists not=good.

Like I said, talk to a doctor or some medical professional first.
