Weighting electoral votes perfectly equally - Trump would still have won.

At what point are we going to accept the fact that he and others like him don't actually care about debt? Anyone here have much doubt he supported Reagan and Bush 43 in every election they were in?

Debt only matters when democrats are in charge. You will see lip service paid to debt while they pass budget busting tax cuts for the rich and useful idiots like boomerang will cheer them on. Then when Democrats are in charge next time he will immediately return to harping about the debt and how America is going bankrupt. Hell, he will probably be even angrier about the irresponsible democrats because the debt will be that much higher after four years of debt increases from policies he supported.

Either it's a totally cynical lie that people are comfortable with or partisanship is so strong they lie to themselves.
Yep, exactly. It's just another mindless club they use to (hypocritically) attack the left. I always enjoy using Reagan nearly tripling the debt as a rebuttal. I envision their denial shields instantly slamming shut to prevent their brains from having to process such heresy.

Trump is at 50% disapproval at Gallup, huge swing in 1st week.
Don't forget that they are still "rigged" or "biased" or whatever. They haven't "learned". I'm sure we'll see an all new polling agency start popping up on Fox News (but Breitbart first) showing "real" numbers that show what a fero dear father Trumpus is.

Why don’t we tweak the EC so votes are weighted by GDP contribution? If you want more representation, rally your city to step-up and contribute more.

Get rid of the EC. President is by popular vote. Distribution of seats remain the same. That way you can still have red state blue state but the president represents the majority of the voting public.

Gallup had him at 45% last Friday/Saturday and Rasmussen now has him at 57% only a few days later. Apparently people are starting to like what they see...as Obama's legacy goes up in smoke.

Any desire to revise this now? Trump's approval ratings have rocketed downward and he hit majority disapproval in the shortest time in history.

I guess we can now safely say that people really don't like what they see, wouldn't you agree? Sounds like America is realizing just how good we had it with Obama.

There are already states that shouldn't even bother - How about half the western states? Campaigns are already limited to a few "swing" states and everything else is practically ignored. Your mistake is to believe that "big states" have some uniform population and would 100% go towards one party under a popular vote system.

And the popular vote can take hold sans constitutional amendment: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Popular_Vote_Interstate_Compact

With the nature of gerrymandering, I would loathe to live under system that splits any electoral votes based on Congressional districting.

Yes, I know of that agreement. It wouldn't eliminate the EC, but it would make it irrelevant.

I know what you mean on the CD allocation of votes. I don't advocate it, but it is an idea that would probably be better suited than winner-take-all.

A lot of the comments in here are advocating straight popular vote. I tried to put together a compromise system. Of course, it could only be implemented at the state level, and getting 50 states to all do things the same way... no, I really don't see that happening.
