Weird 2500k temp

My 2500k has a very high idle temp(50c on CoreTemp/RealTemp), and if I run Prime95 on it, it can hit nearly 80c-90c. I tried to reapply MX4 tim and reseat the HSF properly, and result remains the same.

Eventually I downloaded SpeedFan because I wanted to see other temps, turned out funny thing happened, the temp reading on SpeedFan is a lot more lower than temp reading on CoreTemp/RealTemp(see image below).

Can anone tell me what's going on? Which temp reading is the correct one?Or should I RMA it instead. And my m/b is P8P67 Pro, and the temp reading on the UEFI bios is same as CoreTemp/RealTemp btw. Thanks

CPUID HWMonitor?

You may need to re-do your HS/Thermal Paste...

My 2500k is idling between 27-33C

Is it running at 3.3 ghz in the pic? That's not really idling for a 2500K. I guess mine would probably be in the mid 40s at that speed, but when speedstep has it down at 1.6ghz it stays in the low 30s. Still, 80-90 is really high for load temps. What are your bios settings? Are you using ASUS' auto overclocking feature in the basic bios page? That tends to overvolt my 2500K.

The system can run at 3.3GHz idle if he has the power saving features turned off.

Speed fan has some finicy settings and often auto-detects the wrong TJmax for you CPU. It did that with all C2D/Q series CPUs as well. It would read then 10-15'C lower than anything else due to incorrect TJmax. I'm much more inclined to trust the Real Temp/Core Temp/UFEI/BIOS temp readings.

What HSF are you using? How much thermal compound, and how are you applying it? Case size and airflow? Average room temperature? All these things come into play!

use the utility provided by your mobo, or HWMonitor (the sandybridge kit)

the temp at the BIOS/UEFI might be the stressed temp. for me (and other people), the CPU isn't idle at BIOS

You know if everyone built the computer the same, and it was like a communistic fashion in how we routed cables and made sure ventilation was good, then questions like this could be very easily answered.

Also under communistic fashion we would all use the same heat sinks, and all have the same case, along with motherboard, and fan.

Wait.. isnt that apple?
*sigh*

Thankfully we live in a world of customization...

OP: how's your cable management? Can u take a picture of it, and share it with us?
Where is the computer located?

Try running prime again with your side panel off to see if you have a air flow issue.

Ummm also any and all related cooling questions should go in my section... aka:
Cases and Cooling

I didn't do any overclocking, I set Optimized Defaults, everything at stock, with intel stock HSF. When I enter into the UEFI bios, the temp there already rushing to 50+c, yes just boot into bios and doing nothing.

I don't think other temp monitoring programs will help, the temp inside the bios was already that high, even Speedfan shows me that I got a normal temp reading, it didn't convince me that at all, because I trust more on bios temp reading.

I've redo the HSF already, casing open, and still the same. Any idea?

P/S : aigomorla if you want to transfer this thread to Cases and Cooling then do it, sorry almost forgot the place there lol.

What model RAM are you using? Do you have the XMP profile set? I noticed with the 1156 platform that with some chips setting the XMP profile caused the CPU temps to skyrocket.

Taken from HWMonitor, still high temp at idle and stock speed.

My ram is G.Skill RipJaws DDR3-1600 4GB, and ram can cause CPU temp skyrocket? First time I hear that though.

50C outside of load is too high regardless.

It is a PITA to get the average HSF assembly mounted correctly. I had a big struggle with the Hyper 212+ I'm using, and sometimes I still wonder about it. The rear mounting plate system that most LGA 1155 setups use is a lot better than the old Intel plastic push-pin POSes, but it can still be pretty hard work.

This is to say - you may need to remount your unit again and really take your time about it. I idle in the low-to-mid 30's.

OP you may just want to pony up the 30 bucks and pick up yourself a nice Hyper 212+ off the egg.

I do believe your vcore is not at stock intel spec.
Order a Hyper 212+ and one 120x25 fan with 80-120 cfm.
Then reset vcore to intel stock spec recheck temps.
Besure the outside pin holder is through the mb before pushing or locking the pin.
I been using wb so long I have trouble with pins
I always install the intel hs out of case to be safe the first time.

Are you sure you don't need to set a offset ,, -15 on all cores to make is 35c on idle

I know I had to set offset -5 in AIDA64 and -15 in core temp. Also I set -15 offset on speedfan Soo my temps are correct. If you can configure core temp then it will show you the correct temp. You might need to go -5 or -15 I dont know.
