An interesting issue, wonder if anyone else had this:
Just built a new system:
C2D E6600 (Not OCed yet)
EVGA 680i Mobo
Apevia 680W PSU
Dual PNY 8800GTS cards
SB Audigy 2 ZW Platinum
2x150 Raptors on RAID 0 + WD500GB SE16
I got 4 screens connected to the system and here's what happening.
Mobo has the latest P24 bios
After fresh XP Pro install and fresh Nvidia 97.92 drivers:
Boot into XP, gives me SLI prompt, switch to SLI, play games fine. Switch back to non-SLI so I can use all of my screens, system does it, but does let me enable the screens on the second 8800GTS. I reboot, then I can use all 4 screens.
Now here's the kicker - if I try to enable the SLI while my monitors on the second video card are enabled, the system blinks, does not enable SLI, then if I reboot XP, the drivers are compleltely trashed, the XP is booting into 640x480 16 colors and would not get out of that resolution no matter what you set it to. At that point only the uninstall of Nvidia drivers and reinstall helps.
I've found a somewhat of a workaround: If I disable the secondary card screens before I switch to SLI - it switches, but when I try to switch back to non-SLI, it would not let me use the secondary card's screens until I reboot
I don't know if it's related - I got 2 weird things going on on top of that:
1. Nvraid service at startup sometimes opens in task bar and has a little window on top left that i cannot close short of terminating the process. You know it's one of those crashed windows that you drag stuff over it and it leaves a trail...
2. Every other reboot an Nvidia Driver Helper Services crashes on start-up.. Give me one of those "Don't send" dialogs...
It's pretty frustrating since a wrong move will trash the XP... any suggestions, experiences like that?
