Weird CDRW Problem

Hey , guys i have a weird problem , for some reason my old cdrw (lite-on) was a 12x10x.32 usually it took me around 7 minutes to burn a cd , one day i tried to burn an audio cd and for some reason it burned at 12x for 20 minutes. After that it never burned 7 minutes again for some reason its burning very long , so i thought it broke or something so today i got a Cendyne 40x12x48x and still its burning around 17 to 20 minutes. does anyone have a similar problem? i tried formatting , reinstalling Nero still same problem i have no clue what to do some i am hoping you guys know.

What speed is the media rated for?

Are you going disc to disc???? Check you settings in might be bumping to the hard drive first.

Illusion, here are some other things to test:
--- What utilities are running in the background? Have you tried shutting them down?
--- When was the last time you Defragmented your harddrive? I would run into the same problems as you when I would burn newer files.. because my hdd was very fragmented, newer files would be more fragmented than older files. Check that out- and REPORT BACK! We give you this help so you can come back and tell us what worked so we can help others.

Jeff, the media is is 32x certified and should burn fine on my 12x

MrPhelps , i am am going from harddrive to cd, i should try cd to cd to see what happens

Supernancy , i did try shutting down some stuff that was in the background but it still didnt work and i havent defragmented my HD's yet i have 2 , 80gig 7200 rpm maxtor and 30 gig 5400 rpm samsung.

I also noticed something intresting i went the the log file for nero and for some reason i noticed something strange , it said that my dma for the cdrom wasnt enabled but infact it is i checked plenty of times , does anyone know why it might say that? i will also try deframenting the HD

I am also gonna try to disconnect my cdrom , and leave the Cendyne by itself may be that will work , ill let u know what happens.

1. First Defrag
2. Update Nero, update VIA 4in1

3. Then make sure you got this setup

IDE1 -> Hdd
IDE2 -> Primary CD -> Secondary CDRW

5. Check your CDROM jumpers. Everything set up correctly?
6. You running XP? Delete your secondary IDE channel from device manager. Restart. After it reinstalls insure DMA is enabled.

Tell us what happens after that.

I tried all the steps that you wrote and still same problem , someone suggested i should update my bios but i am afraid to mess it up or break it. I just put in a new motherboard (FIC-SD11) and a new t-bird (750) and if i mess up i dont want to spend money on a new pc.
Thanks for everyones help may be there is something else that i can do , if not i will just have to live with this stupid problem.

Are you sure it's current transfer mode is DMA? Or is running with PIO?

I have always read in installation manuals and various other areas that cdrw drives should be running in PIO mode?
