Weird disk usage?

Hello. I recently noticed on my task manager that my disk usage is not very stable and I'm little bit confused. I don't run any "special" processes that need a lot of writing or reading. My PC seems to run fine, it's just that unstable disk usage and constant HDD led blinking that worries me. Is this normal and I should leave everything like it is now or should I do something to stabilize the usage?

Where have you located your Page File and Windows Logs. I don't place Window Logs and never allow Win or App Temps to write to my SSD OS NTFS Partition but I still use a Fat32 Primary DOS Boot Partition.

I DISABLE MS Backup, Hibernate and Sleep and use DOS Image Backups.

Don't loose your User Profile and remember how you Partition your SSD's and HDD's but really a DOS SYS-Prep Image will do anything you want and that includes whether your MB SATA set AHCI or RAID.

taskmgr .. goto details and enable all columns IO-read/write/other .. now you should easily be able to pinpoint the naughty app.

@cytg111 gave you some good advice, and I second it. What I wanted to add was that just for your peace of mind, you may consider running a brand specific diagnostics tool and see what is the drives SMART status. Also, running a malware scan wouldn't hurt
P.S. Could you provide information as to what model and brand is your HDD?

Windows always writes or reads something from the disk and the LED is constantly blinking. On an idle state the blinking is long and when you transfer files you will notice the blinking frequency become shorter to almost always on. A non blinking LED means a dead LED or a non functional system.

In your situation from the screenshot you provided, an application writes something on the disk.
