weird dns resolution problem

When I reboot any machine( I have lots and all different MS OS's) on my network, I can't get on the web right away. I tried renewing the ip and flushing the dns table and all sorts of things. The only thing that seems to work is to constantly ping my dns server and keep trying IE until it starts to work. I have a Linksys cable router on Road Runner and this problem is driving my family nuts. HELP!

Are you using the router as a DHCP server? When you renew the IP do you actually get a new IP or does it not? When a machine is having trouble getting online, do the other machines have any problems? Are your machines using the router itself as their DNS server (DNS proxying) or is the DHCP server giving them the IPs of the real DNS servers? When you finally get connected, are the pings to the DNS server getting high latency? If while one machine is having a problem, you go to a working machine, and it pings the DNS server is it getting high latency? Do you have IE configured to use a proxy on any of the machines?

The Router is my DHCP and is passing the real DNS addresses. No proxy. Other machines seem fine. Renewing usually gives same ip back, but you can realease and renew successfully. Will check latency soon.

Going to try a firmware upgrade next. Weird things is that if I log onto trillian or winmx first, I get connected, but if I try using IE, it takes like a half hour to finally get on. Thanks for the tips, let me know if you come up with anything else.

Try Opera or NS or Mozilla?

Perhaps IE is the problem. Have you done all your Windows Updates? (stupid suggestions)

Try setting IE's connection for the one IP you usually get instead of having it search for one automatically. That may speed things up.
