Weird Doom 3 Problem

I have a A64 3000 , 512 Geil Ram, 9800 BBT Radeon (Completely Stock). Whenever I play Doom 3 on medium at 800x600 I get weird "lines" through the screen. It doesn't happen all the time, but it will just like almost I guess you'd say "redraw" that small part of the screen. It's really hard to describe. Just like little lines that "redraw" themselves every so often. I'm running the latest Catalyst drivers...

Could be monitor tearing. What monitor do you have? Have you tried enabling vsync to see if the problem goes away?

I have some weird problems getting a decent frame rate in Doom on my Athlon 64 3000+.

I am running a very fast PC with an older video card (Gforce 4 MX) and the game is only marginaly playable. I get Framerates of 20-40 fps notmaly, dropping to 7-8 when I enter a large room or get in a fight.

The funny thing is that when I play on Low graphic settings 640x480 with all the options turned off I have exactly the same performance as on High 800x600 with high quality effects and bump maps turned on!

This is really weird and makes me think that the video card may not be the problem. I do have a really crappy CD drive though I don't see how that could contribute to steady chop on the screen. Also my HD is 3-4 years old, but its an 80 gig and should be accessing that slowly...

If anyone has any ideas on how I can resolve these issues I'd b eglad to hear it!

AMD 64 3000+ (2.0 GHz) not overclocked
GForce 4 MX (64 MB RAM)
512 MB pc3200 400Mhz RAM
Soundblaster Live!Value
20 fps

what the hell is going on???

My video card is specified in the doom 3 readme file as compatible, and I've read reports of people on slower systems than mine clocking 40 fps on a Geforce 4.

If the video card its self was insufficient, then lowering the graphics quality should have given me a performance boost right? But it stays at a steady 20 fps.

The only thing I can think of is a compatability issue between my very old vid card and my very new motehrboard because Halo runs a fair bit choppier than you'd expect too. But then I'm no expert on hardware.

MAKE YOUR OWN THREAD. It's rude to post your problems 'over' someone elses in their own thread. And for gods sake, put it in the software forum! Is Doom 3 a video card? NO! Take it to the software forum!

1. Make your thread, like Nebor recommends.
2. Geforce4 means Geforce4, NOT Geforce4 MX.

XaiuM: do the lines stay there if you use an older driver version?

I was unable to get a picture....I tried about 7 screencaptures but the problem is one that is near impossible to see in a picture. I reverted back to the 6.14 drivers (that's what windows reports...the driver was on the cd that came with my card) from the 4.7 ones, and DOOM 3 crashed when I tried to play. (Couldn't tell if it fixed the problem since it crashed!). That's why I originally updated drivers, because Doom 3 would crash after loading with the old drivers. I have a 100 meg video that shows the problem, but if I make it smaller to make it a reasonable file size you can't see the problem. I have 35k/s up so if anyone wants to take a look at it my AIM name is just the same (xaium). Shouldn't take too long with my upload speed.

I have a Dell D1028L monitor, and I believe Vsync is enabled, although I forgot how to check.
