Weird driverproblems with my Asus 5900!

I have a big problem with my Asus V9900 (FX5900) and drivers above 53.06. All drivers above 53.06 makes my card behave sluggish and with very poor performance.

I've ruled out the temps (65c@450/950) by, ofcourse, running the card at default speeds and various o/c speeds. I'm using 53.06 now and it works great, except that I miss out on much nice graphics (obviously the older driver) in some games like Settlers 5.

If anyone has any idea of how I can solve this weird problem please help!!!!

the only thing i can think of is that its not actually a problem.... its slowing down because the 5900 behaves poorly when using dx9 codepaths in games, pre 53 drivers may have told all games to run only in dx8 codepath, whereas newer drivers have said to run dx9... hence the slowdown, because of more work

that was one of the major criticsms of the 5900 series cards
if you read some of the older articles on AT, it will show the huge performance drops in the 5900 series when running dx9 in games like hl2 etc...
