Background: Just moved to the area (Detroit Metro) 8 months ago...Grew up in IL and went to school in IN.

I was recently at Target with my girlfriend, just randomly looking around. We were looking at desks and stuff, when out of nowhere this guy dressed in all black with a lether jacket walks up really close to us and starts looking at the same thing we were looking at. I got kind of freaked out by this "close shopper", so we moved on to the next isle.

Then, a minute or so later, he comes down our isle again, and I look up to see him looking right at me...I had a strange feeling that he was following me. I turned to go out of that isle, when I hear..

Dude: "Excuse me...your face looks really familiar...do you go to school around here?"
Me: "ummm nope, sorry"
Dude: "Ohhh well I've been doing some on campus interviews and thought maybe I had seen you there"
Me: "...nope" *start walking away again*
Dude: "Where do you work???"
Me: "<company name>"
Dude: "OH!! I work for Bosch...I've been doing some e-commerce work for them...what do you do there??"
Me: "just computer stuff...."

So we walk away and are kind of wierded out by him...My girlfriend was kind of mad that I brushed him off so bad...then I turn the corner. Another guy dressed almost identically to the close shopper was standing there...

Dude2: "Hey do you go to school around here your face looks familiar"
Me: "No!"

So we were pretty freaked out and looked around for a couple more minutes, then left. When we got out to the car, I wanted to wait to see if the two came out together...and about 5 minutes later they did. I tried to follow them to see where they went next, but I lost them at a stop light.

Cliffs:
1. Guy shops too close to me at Target
2. Guy says I look familiar, says "Your face looks familiar, do you go to school around here?"
3. I brush guy off, continue to shop
4. Another guy says, "Your face looks familiar, doyou go to school around here?"
5. Guys come out of store together.
6. I try to follow them but lose them at a light..

Recruiters or something more than likely. They want to build report before asking if you want to join something.

Possibly scammers.

**EDIT**

thirdeye might have it right too.

I've had the same thing happen to me 4 times. They try to draw you into some sort of scheme. Don't bother.

Thats kind of what we were thinking...it was weird because they said the exact same thing, "Your face looks familiar, do you go to school around here?"

Dude, you shouldn't be so rude to people. I mean, they were probably going to let you in on a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to make tens of thousands of dollars off of a small initial investment. Don't brush off people trying to help you :|

Use an elevator presentation. Thanks to Hilton Johnson of MLM University for this technique. Break the ice. Develop rapport. Say something like ?You look familiar. Do you work around here? (Yes) Oh, what do you do for a living? (When they answer, say something like ?Really, I?m looking for people like you in my business.? If they ask you what you do, say something like ?You know how (fill in the blank), well, what I do is (fill in the blank to create an opening.)

This actually happens to me a lot. One guy tried to get me to buy into his internet business with the "You look familiar" line. I turned him down. Then about a year later the same exact guy (I have a good memory for faces) approached me in the Target parking lot as my g/f and I were leaving.

He gave me the same "Do I know you from somewhere, you look familiar" line to which I replied "You should remember me! I turned you and your scam down a year ago!". My g/f just busted out laughing and that guy, obviously pissed, just walked off.

Don't try to be sneaky and dishonest with me to try and recruit me for some bullshit. To me that screams con man, I don't care if what he's pimping could make me a million dollars I just don't trust snakes.

Another guy tried it on me at Walmart one time, but this guy was a little more smooth. First off, when my son and I were crossing the parking lot to come in this white Camry came around the corner, intersecting with our path, but stopped well enough ahead to not come near hitting us.

Once my son and I were inside this guy comes up and says "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to almost hit you and your son back there.". I was thinking "WTF is this guy talking about???", then it occured to me he was the guy in the Camry. I figured he was just being nice so I said "No worries man, we'll live." and turned around to look at something.

Then he says "Is that your 4runner out there? What year is that, it's sharp.". This kinda creeped me out as I don't really get how he saw us get out of that particular truck since we were a good ways away from it when we crossed paths with him in the parking lot, but again I figured he was just trying to be nice and make conversation, which I hate, but oh well.

I did make sure to put myself between this man and my son in a defensive position just incase the guy was a nutjob, but he just started talking about 4runners. then it went to "So where do you work?". I replied "What are you selling?". He says "How do you know I'm trying to do that?". I say "Well, are you are aren't you?".

He just gave me this blank look, handed out his card and walked away.

I would have shanked him had he continued down that path I'm sure of it.
