Weird game/video-problem

I have a really weird problem. Every 5-10 seconds almost all games I run stops for about 0.1s. It happens in BF1942, Elastomania, HL2 and even the car demo in the ATI-drivers. I have tried turning AGP Fast Write off and changed drivers but it didn't help. What could this problem be?

My computer is:
A64 3000+@2250mhz
512mb Corsair PC4000
MSI K8N Platinum
Sapphire Radeon 9600pro
2*200gb Seagate 7200.7
WindowsXP SP2

Does the game stop when you are playing and in the game and in menus?

Do a clean re-setup of video card drivers (uninstall the old and use the newest drivers you can find)
also try setting all video settings to default.

Do you use any firewall, antivirus, adware, and spyware programs. if not try Spyware SE personal and
Spybot search and Destroy.

Ive tried both installing the latest drivers and older drivers. Currently I use NOD32 antivirus and no firewall. I found some entries when I used Spybot, mostly DSO. However it didn't solve the hacking problem. Im starting to wonder if my graphics card is broken. =(

Try Ad-Aware SE personal it can find problems that Spybot can't.

before you suspect your video card, there's one thing not listed in your specs above......

what brand and wattage is your power supply?

It had better be a Good quality and reasonably high wattage for that system.

Let us know what it is.

And also a format and reinstall of windows may be necessary to rule out someone hacking you
or having spyware still causing problems.

I've run both Adaware and Spybot and I guess they did some good cause they both found problems =). However it didn't solve the problem. =/ My PSU is an Antec Truepower 430w.

Well you have a good PSU so like "daveybrat" said reformat and reinstall your OS to rule out a hacker or
virus being the problem. I dont think your video card is bad so don't do anything to it yet. Antec PSU's are very relyable I use one also.

I have seen in some cases, that sound card drives can cause stuttering similar to this, I would verify they are updated, and if not, update them

I noticed that you have 512mb. I dont know about Battlefield 1942, but in Half-Life 2 and other games recently, I have seen slowdowns as the page file starts being used even with that much memory. Remember than XP usually takes about 200-300 megs in the first place, so you do not have a lot of free memory.

I had a problem like that. And it was my antivirus. I disabled it and everything went fine
