Weird issue with refurbished EOS R

So I got the EOS R last week and have been messing around with it as time permits. I noticed a weird issue with the screen yesterday. When the screen is articulated at various angles, and I point the camera at an angle, the screen will go black and I have to "reset" the screen by putting it in unarticulated (is that a word?) placement.

I have a commlite mount adapter (can't afford a lens right now and waiting for OEM mount to come back in stock) with a few of my lenses and I was wondering if this could be related to the mount or is it a manufacturer issue? I don't know anyone with an R mount camera so I can't test by removing the mount from the equation, and there isn't a camera store anywhere near me to have it looked at.

ship it back to canon as defective

I posted on a facebook group and some folks responded that there's a sensor that turns the screen off and turns on the electronic viewfinder. If it thinks there is something near the sensor, it'll turn the screen off, which may be what I'm experiencing. I'll play around with it a bit more this weekend and see if I can determine that's the issue. Otherwise I'll send it back. It makes sense though now.

Factory reset, remove eye cup, clean the sensor, try again and if not, back to the factory.

Played around with the R this weekend and verified that it is indeed the sensitivity of the EVF sensor. If I just barely move my finger across the EVF the screen will turn off. Tried at different angles and positions. I'm still trying to get used to shooting with a ff mirrorless.

yea there prob is a way to turn it off. It's not annoying (for me anyways), just thought something was broken with the refurb initially.

If it is the same as Nikon, there is a button on the viewfinder to change the mode to EVF only, LCD + EVF (black out occurs) and LCD only. The LCD blackout is necessary because it prevents your nose from controlling the camera via the LCD.
