weird laptop acer aspire one

acer aspire one kav60 (aod 250)
this was a working computer with unbunto installed
the seller will not let me use the os.
so i tried to install win xp pro ,booted went thru and then went to
a bsod which looked as is the hdd was not working?
is this a driver issue? sata drv..i looked at the site and has a
21mb download drv.how do i use this to boot ?

Enter the bios... Look to see if there is a "compatibility mode" option for the SATA controller. If that doesn't exist, it may be as simple as selecting "AHCI disabled" which is the same as compatibility mode.

That will let the XP install see the HD as an ATA drive instead. You still have to install the storage matrix driver, but that can be done later in the build. You'll want to install that driver just before you turn SATA mode back on in the bios.

This isn't Off Topic or For Sale/Trade where you get replies/bumps in minutes.

If you suspect the hard drive you can try running some diagnostics on it. Most/all drive manufacturers have downloadable software that can run without having Windows installed to test their brand of hard drive. Just go to their site and follow instructions.
