Weird pc problem help!

Yesterday my pc froze while in windows and it wouldnt post after the crash(boot loop).Then i took everything out of the case and reassembled them on a box.It worked fine and to make sure i run prime 95 and heaven for 2 hours without a problem So i put it back in the case and it boot loops again.The boot loop stop when i removed
the second ram stick and now it works fine with only 1 stick of ram.
Question: Why it works with 2 ram sticks outside of the case and works only with one stick inside the case?

PC is 1 year old,
Specs :i7 6700 non k ,gigabyte h170 hd3 , rmx 750x , msi gtx 1070 , phanteks ethoo pro m acrylic , 16gb gskill ripjaws, hyper 212x coooler.(sorry for my english)

I'm curious, when inside the case does it matter which of your two modules you use? In other words, have you swapped the modules around while testing. This should identify the problem as either being the module, or the motherboard memory slot.

Maybe there is a defect in the PCB, and when it's in the case and screwed down, it flexes that defect somewhat, and causes the issue.

Otherwise, I would just have to guess your PC case is possessed by a succubus or something.

I mean if it's been working fine for a year, it shouldn't be a shorting problem, which would have caused issues right away.

I ran memtest86 for 5 hours every stick and go no errors.Maybe a pin on the socket is bent ?

Could be. You can also inspect the RAM module's contacts and see if they look discolored, or damaged in any way.
Also, since your motherboard has 4 RAM slots, try running them in the other memory channel and see if that makes any difference.

I put back in the second ram stick and it is all working fine!!!!!!.I will lose my mind!!!!!
I will ran i memstest for the dual channnel just to be sure.

something is wrong somewhere. Perhaps it is the power supply?

could be a BIOS issue. Is there a newer BIOS? Perhaps resetting the BIOS could help.

i have tried another psu same result.Change the cmos battery? Also after the memtest pc boot into windows with no problems.THen i turned it off and it boot loops again.

Personally, after so much fiddle farting around with the setup, I'd probably start at trying to RMA the motherboard to Gigabyte if it's still under warranty (which I'd imagine it should be). That should at least eliminate a large chunk of the equation.

I will put electrical tape on every stand off just to make sure it's not shorting out. I checked gigabyte's forum and found that this chipset had lot of ram related problems

PC booted into bios with 1 ram stick . The strange thing is that the bios shows that the ram stick is installed on the 4 slot instead of 1.Gigabyte's faulty bios?.I am using the first slot from the right .

I know this may sound somewhat out there, but it is a known issue that an over-tightened heat sink can cause a motherboard to lose a ram channel. Below I've linked one source (post #1), plus I've personally had this happen.

Perhaps the PCB is stressed differently by your HSF when the motherboard is rigidly mounted in the case vs when it is outside the case (due to slight differences in holes spacing)?

In addition, the differences in the orientation, meaning vertical PCB with horizontal cooler (causing stress) when inside the case vs horizontal orientation when sitting flat while outside the case could perhaps be causing stress points that are causing the loss of a memory channel.

You could try re-installing your cooler, being sure to tighten things up evenly during the install and see if you don't get lucky. At worst, you'll be out a little time, but at least your heat sink will have fresh TIM.

sure looks like it is. What you should do is try the suspect stick by itself in each slot and see what happens.

if it doesn't boot after that then the stick is toast.

I tested the suspect stick in3 slots and no post and 5 beeps
Should i return both sticks or just the faulty?

If the two modules were purchased as a kit, then in most cases you will be asked to send back both modules.

The reason being that they can't guarantee that the old module and the replacement will work together. By replacing both modules it eliminates the risk of any compatibility issues between them.
