Weird Plasma Lamp $10 @ Walmart

I noticed that this spiral type plasma lamp was on sale for $10 in at least two Utah Walmarts B&M. I've got one and it attracts quite a bit of attention at the office.

Heh cool, I've got one of those at the office, too. $10 is a great price, I think I paid at least $30-40 for mine a couple years ago.

Cool, a lava lamp for genX.

Does stuff move inside like a lava lamp? They look cool.

I wouldn't describe them as lava lamps at all. They're plasma lamps with phosphor on the sides (kind of like a fluorescent lamp that is clear). The plasma reacts with the phosphors to create a rapidly moving 'Frankenstein' type light show (no noise though).

I called two seattle area WalMarts, they didn't have it.

Closest thing they had was one of those electro-plasma balls.


Ahh well, it's possible they had them but the people I spoke with didn't know.

Ok, so I went to my local WallyWorld ands took a look at those lamps. Decided against buying it. In my opinion it looks so much better in the linked pic. But that is just me, of course.
What I've seen however, is that they also have a lamp in the shape of a tornado. Looked intersting, i ahve to admit. They also had one in blue, in the shape of a dolphin, at least I thought that's what it was. Hey, I ain't no marine biologist, lol.

They've got the full size electras at Spencers and DAPY for 30 bucks (in store or online). The B&M store I went to (Broomfield, CO) had blue/blue, blue/red, and green/green. Pretty cool, these things are usually $75+.

Yeah, I went today to pick up two more as gifts - I plugged several in and picked the best of the lot. All of them worked, but some looked a lot cooler than others (in terms of performance and colors).

I should have known better than to go to a Walmart in SoCal....the price is $20 here too. The only items they had for $10 were some no name glitter and lava lamps.
